The whole thing was so paper thin its untrue - the amount of consultations, planning, design, viability studies, procurement etc etc that would be needed for what they are suggesting is mental, just made it such an obviously meaningless promise. | |

I've seen one of the local MPs today trumpeting the Ely Junction upgrade as an example of a benefit of the HS2 scrapping.
Neither Northern nor new. Not sure on which planet it ticks any of yesterday's boxes. |  |

They couldn’t even be arsed to consult on the true stuff they’re suggesting (e.g. reform of A levels, in a decade, maybe). So yeah, there’s no chance they consulted over all their made up rubbish. | |

I did like the line about selling the compulsorily-purchased land offsetting the cost of buying out of contracts already signed for work on the northern stretch. So we're all square, then? Completely ignoring the cost of those compulsory purchases in the first place! |  |

I didn't think the Ely junction changes had passed through consultation yet & the locals aren't happy with what Network Rail has proposed because it cuts off alot of level crossings, meaning longer diversions to get around the area by road.
The one detail I think everyone missed is these were announced as plans for the period 2029-2040.
Meaning even if Rishi won the next election, he'd have to win the one after to be in office when any work on this started, and the one after before any grand openings. | | | |
