Sea Surface Temperatures, central belt average, 60S-60N 11:42 - Feb 29 with 1910 views | NthQldITFC | https://climatereanalyzer.org/clim/sst_daily/ We're approaching that point on the calendar (early March) when last year, graphically at least, there seems to have been a startling divergence from the 1981 onwards mean. From that point onwards 2023 looks to have been outside 3sigma (99%+ chance of being non-normal distribution if I remember correctly) to as much as 5sigma or so from end of July onwards (including right now). Probably far too simplistic to imagine that some sort of seasonal events in March and July might repeat (more likely that they were one-off triggerings of something), but will be interesting to watch the trajectory over the next month or so.

My work colleague thought that had to travel from Bristol to Scotland for a meeting. He thought about going by train but a return ticket was around £150. So he thought that he’d have to use the car. Out of curiosity he looked how much it’ll cost to fly and a return ticket was £30. How can flying be that much cheaper than train? Sorry for hijacking your thread.

A number of countries are now banning internal flights where a train is available for the journey. France did this last year and Spain are in the process of doing it now. It's a very sensible idea although does rely on the trains being cheap and effective which unfortunately they aren't in the UK. SB

Shareholders or Tory's back pockets. Or all owned by non UK companies like our utilities so they can reap the rewards of fleecing the UK and helping their own back home. Renationalise or the fact that we are just sh ite at stuff and others are better.

because the railways industry is one big gravy train, from top to bottom. Thats my guess. Shut it down and start again.

If the train is full of gravy top to bottom, surely there's no room for your actual human passengers. Who's eating all that gravy is my question? I suppose it could be a sort of airbag to absorb the effects of a crash. Would the viscosity of the gravy be critical in whether these putative passengers were saved? Does anybody know yet?

The passengers have to swim in the gravy while on board (while wearing little snorkels), but mustn't ever eat any for fear of being slapped by an extra charge for not having an open gravy-eating ticket.
