From what I know there’s not usually a lot of availability until further in the calendar, so people book way down the line and then if there’s a cancellation or one nearer becomes available they then contact you. |  |

This is how my son and his mates did it. There are apps that tell you when cancellations become available so none of them had to wait for the day they'd actually booked for. |  |

Bookings are about 2-3 months away. However an app or regular checking you will get cancellations appear. They don't tell you. You have to do the work. |  |

It seems a bit odd if he's doing it through the normal channels - when I did mine a few years back it was simply a case of logging on to the DVLA website and choosing from the available dates/times.
That said, if he's gone through one of the grey firms who essentially scoop up whatever they can from the DVLA website using bots/scrapers etc., and then re-sell them to those who don't want to endure the current waiting times, that may well be their MO? |  |

I recently booked one and the earliest I could get was in around five months. But the idea was to get it paid and recorded. Then there was an app for just over £10 which lists all the cancellations and allows you to cancel and re-book sooner if it suits. | |

Do you know, whether your employee has actually passed his Theory Test yet? No Theory Test pass, he will most definitely not be able to book a Practical Driving Test!
As other posters have correctly said, you will receive notification of your test date and time at the time of booking through the DVLA booking system. You will be able to book you preferred date, time and test centre during this process.
The app mentioned, simply lets you know that a test date and time has been released at your preferred test centre, there is no guarantee, that by the time you have logged into the system, that available date and time has gone, far easier to just monitor the system for late availability tests. |  | | |
