Yep he did. Sure when it happened there was something in the evening star. Can't seem to find it. Proper good guy he was even though he booked me once!

There was a ref who was around 70 odd (don't think it's who you're referring to though) when I was playing youth football 2002 to 2007, was always fair, grey wispy hair, would always shout the colour of the team if they won a corner, free kick, throw in, goal kick etc.

Not many fair refs around these days, there are two brothers who ref Sunday mornings who start to give everything to the opposition if you mutter a word to them. The usual pre-game warning in the changing rooms to keep it quiet and play to the whistle.

Was his name Billy? Everyone just called him Paddy. That's if we are thinking of the same person.

Would always say 'enjoy the game lads' at kick off in that genial Irish way. Would also have that classic socks pulled up over tracksuit bottom look.

Sounds like him. Was def Billy to us. Stalwart at Henley Rd Friday nights. Couldn't keep up with play but proper nice guy so struggled to question him. 95 to 99.

Yes played many years for veg corner up at Henley Road we won everything, nobody could touch us. Billy never moved from this one corner of the pitch, even when the ball was smacked at him! Parts of pitch held together by duct tape! Health and safety would have a field day now.

Would travel to every game on that little moped.

Lovely old boy. Had a massive go at me once for running on the pitch up at Henley indoor before the sub had gone off. Had no idea he took any rules seriously 😂

Can I hijack this and ask if anyone remembers Des who ran football sessions on a Wednesday night at Whitton sports centre in the early-mid 2000s and almost certainly for a long time before that. Great guy, I wonder if he’s still around but fear probably not.

There’s a Des that works the NSU bar, he’s from Whitton I think. Might be him?

Oh absolutely – I did sessions with Des on a Saturday morning at Whitton between between around (at a guess) 1990 and 1993, so I'd have been 7-10ish, and came across him at numerous other things. Guy was an absolute legend, I can picture him right now.

I remember the moped!!!

He once missed a goal (ball hit the bar, bounced & hit the net and then the keeper caught it) because he was cheering to a lad behind him, we lost on penalties.

Also, to the other lad, yes I remember Des. Used to play up at Whitton Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon with him.

Remember Billy well from my 5-a-side days up Henley Road, the guy was a legend!

Not sure if this was him.

Was that Henley Road 5-a-side on the indoor cricket pitches? Knackered my patella cartilage there landing on that thin carpet after being chopped by some scrote. But we won the tourney!
