Seen a couple of posts talking about how big a signing this is for us, all of which completely valid.
But, I think we need to give him time and not put too much pressure on him.

This is a lad who had the world at his feet, got a big transfer to a big team and then it didn't quite work out for him, having watched him playing for Wet Sham last year, he looks like a player who's confidence is shot to ribbons.

Now, if anyone can fix that, it's McKenna, but it isn't going to happen overnight, it's going to take time. He needs a club where he can feel loved again, if he gets that here, who knows what happens at the end of this season should we stay up.

I'm fully expecting this to be similar to Omari situation last seeason. I think he will be eased into the side and then by the second half of the season, he will be flying.

It's a perfect signing, timing wise though. No need to put in against liverpool, can't play against City anyway. He's got 2-3 weeks to bed in and learn the team. Give him his first start against Wimbledon and then no doubt he will slot in after that.

Its comes with the territory, unfortunately. Even Southgate was ruing his absence pre-Euros. he's now a big fish in a small pond so needs to perform but i have a feeling this is exactly what he needs.

Nope cant see that.

This is Kalvin Phillips. If he is match fit ( which I believe he is), he will be playing.

Maybe not vs Liverpool and obviously not City. But after that, he becomes the main man.

He’ll get time for the reasons you outline but he’s had a decent preseason and minutes with MC. He now has to get himself match sharp for PL level over a series of games which is not dissimilar to all our players!

Agreed. However, if he's going to give silly penalties away and get sent off like at West Ham, doesn't matter who he plays for, he's going to get stick unfortunately (just like any other player). He shouldn't be immune.

Weirdly, I don't think it'll take much for him to get his confidence up if he fits in with the squad etc

Agreed, but he's still one of (if not 'the') biggest signings we've ever made.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Bought in for experience and if he does as well as Ross Berkeley for Luton then happy days.
PS would have preferred Ross Berkeley but hey ho.

Mckenna magic will soon sort the lad.

Big talent, no doubt about that, City don't pay £45 mil for dross.

As ever the gaffer will focus on his strengths, that breeds confidence, Jackson, Hirst, Woolf, JD and a few more can all attest to that, if he can stay fit I think he could be huge.

When was the last time we had a full England International playing for us? Did Dyer? Not sure he was capped with us? Did Bowyer some how mangage 1 or 2?

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

^^^This.
McKenna's skill has been to get players doing what they are good at to the very best of their ability. He rarely, if ever, wants them to do stuff they struggle to do. The exception was playing Jackson up top on his own in those few weeks in January after Hirst's injury. Even then, he adapted the patterns of play of the team to try to get the best out of Jackson's more limited skill set in that centre forward role.
Phillips doing what he's good at to a high level sounds excellent to me.
