In another case, a carpet fitter from Bournemouth was also given a £500 FPN for leaving an off-cut outside his home for someone to take.' 'Julie, also from Bournemouth, is fighting a £500 FPN she is unable to afford to pay – and which will increase to £1,000 in two weeks’ time – for leaving six planks of wood stacked outside her garden gate for people to collect. “The private litter warden had me in tears,” she said. “I told him I didn’t realise I was doing anything wrong and offered to take the wood back into my garden immediately. But he said he was being lenient and what I’d done was so bad that he should actually be taking me to court to get a £50,000 fine.”

Privatisation gone mad! on 19:31 - Sep 22 with 2468 views | Pendejo | Fly tipping is a huge problem on some of the roads where I live, so if I heard that people were being fined I'd be very happy. There are ways of getting rid of useful excess goods; Gumtree, Freecycle etc.

There's a world of difference between fly tipping and this though. I'm with you, I'd string up fly tippers, but someone leaving useful timber on their own boundary line with a 'Free, help yourself' sign is a sensible, positive action. The fact that profit-driven wanchors are trying to hand out £500 fines for that makes me sick. I hear what you're saying about Freecycle, Gumtree etc., but plenty of old dudes won't be able to handle that. We have to put common sense above worshipping money and greed.

Too many people dump stuff on the pavement and think by scribbling “free” on a bit of paper they can just leave it and absolve themselves of responsibility for it. No issue if it is left in their front garden but not on the pavement. My wife has to use a mobility scooter on bad health days and pavements are already a nightmare. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Leaving it on public land and then admitting to it is her mistake

Unless you physically handing it to someone simply leaving "stuff" however useful is fly tipping. How long does it have to be there before you would consider it dumped? Fly tipping is also a magnet for others to tip their junk, so the useful could be obscured or tainted by the junk.

Where I live common for people to leave stuff out for some one to collect . However they always leave it within there boundary & usually put something on our local face book page

Hope 4m worktop wasn't left on a 3m garden £500.00 fine
Privatisation gone mad! on 20:48 - Sep 22 with 2139 views | BloomBlue | If she has the details of the person/people who were collecting it then I'm sure they will let her off. Something similar happened in my area recently, bid left a small fridge on the pavement 'for someone to collect'. Turns out they hadn't organised an actual collection, but was hopeful the 'scrap metal' bods who occasional drive round would take it away for them. Hence fly tipping, they recieved a £300 fine. Not enough in my mind, should be £3000. I hate scum like that who don't have any respect for wheelchair bound people who had to go into the road to get round it. Obviously said individual said they couldn't afford to pay the fine, tough pay it, just don't leave items on pavements

I'll wind my neck in! Perhaps if we had tax funded local wardens doing a decent job for a decent wage and the good of society things would work, but that seems to be beyond our capabilities now. Progress, eh!

So if I understand you correctly you basically want nationalise it. Would that make any difference, as the fines would presumably be the same

No, they wouldn't be the same, and they'd end up funding local projects.

I don't think people leaving unwanted trash outside is actually particularly charitable. It's an eye sore, can block pavements and entice other dumping. I think people should just take responsibility and take it to the tip, eBay it etc. As for these ridiculous fines, they are obviously unlawful. They just need challenging and this privatised fine market will crumble. [Post edited 22 Sep 2024 22:19]

Privatisation gone mad! on 00:22 - Sep 23 with 1716 views | BlueForYou | I take all my stuff to the excellent recycle centre at Bury St Edmunds & sort it out there. Anything useful goes in the shed for resale, the rest in the appropriate skip. Aided by very helpful staff. Not everyone has a good recycle centre local to them though. The one in Bournemouth where I lived for a couple of years was terrible, they were like the gestapo & would ask you to get out of your vehicle while they fully inspected it before going in. If there was something they didn’t like, maybe they didn’t like the t shirt you were wearing, then you weren’t allowed in. A very immature game would develop! No wonder some people fly tip!

Huntingdon DC will pick up three large items for £25.00 so no excuse for fly tipping
Privatisation gone mad! on 08:26 - Sep 23 with 1482 views | giant_stow | A much bigger issue than this is people who live above shops getting harassed over their rubbish by council litter spies. We lived over a commercial premises for 10 years and had many run-ins with them - when you no bins outside, it can get pretty stressy. If someone decides to add to your carefully timed bag outside, or a fox rips the bag open, you find yourself in the hook. [Post edited 23 Sep 2024 8:28]

Exactly right. I've left washing machines etc for scrap metal men at front. Kids bikes too when they grown uo or even paving slabs. Redistribution or help others out.
