RIP Stephen on 11:57 - Oct 8 with 2241 views | textbackup | Remember a similar story some years back. Bloke from fitness first, played football (Sudbury I think) twice a week, ran most days. Jumped in the shower after a run and died. Mid 30’s, kids, wife. I would have been about 18 at the time, so maybe the first person I’d properly known to pass away tragically. Sorry for your loss though.

My forner boss's husband had done his PhD in biochemistry on why fit people suddenly drop dead in their late twenties/early thirties. One hypothesis is some sort of genetic mutation can limit your heart to about abillion* beats and that's your lot. *(Something like 72bpm x 60 minute sx168 hours x 52 weeks x 30 years. I think that comes to around about 1 billion)

The guy from fitness first? Yeah that seems to ring a bell actually. Name escapes me, but as an older bloke (compared to me at 17/18) he was chatty to us in the gym etc. first I heard about it was in the evening star a few weeks later

Read a bit on the ticker (born with a leaky aorta so made sense for me to take notice of the heart and its workings) But then I read too much, and thought my time was up… so I stopped thinking about it!

RIP Stephen on 17:04 - Oct 8 with 1619 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Sorry to hear that. I am sure the news will get round the team before you are together and I am sure that between you there will be the right words said. It is always a shock when you encounter an unanticipated death and even more so for the first time and the closer the relationship we have with them. Don't shy away from talking to someone and it is probably a good idea to seek out who is the best person or group to point the team towards for them to talk to if they need to as well. We had someone collapse at the end of the park run we did several weeks ago. Thankfully, they recovered well but it is a reminder of just how fragile life is for all of us.

I know that feeling as I was born with aortic valve defect and didn’t know until I was 52 after I had a health MOT at Nuffield and heart murmur found( not found when I had MOT at 40). Spent the last year reading everything I could and really put me in to a spin and bad place for a while so had to stop and look forward and just be sensible.

Mine was detected at birth, had the old balloon thing done to open the valve up when I was 10, then full open heart surgery when I was 12/13… bi yearly Papworth check ups now. Which is currently 6 months late because of covid (still blaming it on that!) Hopefully you don’t have any side effects and you’re Up and about enjoying life 👍
