My daughter in Newbridge, Ireland sent me a picture just like the top two ( red ) from her hall door. She said all the neighbours were out watching it. the pictures were pretty spectacular. I also missed it as I got home late.

Saw on Facebook someone got a good shot in the lay-by just past the Orwell Bridge on The Strand at Wherstead.

Went along and there were a few cars there taking pictures. Couldn’t see much with the naked eye, but slow exposure on the phone showed up bright red.

Young couple next to me who let’s say weren’t there for the lights, asked what was going on and why everyone was taking pictures of the bridge in the dark.
They were genuinely interested when I showed them and took some pictures of their own.

In the dark skies of Suffolk Coastal it was how clearly you could see the red with the naked eye that made it so special.

I think what they were meeting up for was going to be equally, if not more, exciting than the northern lights.

Getting a bit too frequent now - they will lose their appeal. Whichever God is in charge of scheduling needs to keep his/her powder dry.

They're doing it to distract us from what's really going on!

My missus dragged me out at 11:30 last night to look at the sky. It just looked like the sky to me until I looked through the phone. I pointed out that I could look at a better picture of the northern lights on my phone without getting out of bed. Apparently I didn't get it.

I have to say that the mobile phone camera digitized it into some thing very bright and splendid, hence all the lovely pictures, but to the naked eye it was pretty nondescript on the whole. A little pink tinge and when walking the dog a little patch of what was probably green but just looked like a white haze to me. Maybe it is my eyes, but if seen pre mobile phone era, there would not be any fuss about it. The difference between what the camera saw and what I saw was immense. Sorry to be a killjoy

Thing is, where we live there's always a bit of a tinge to the colour of the sky due to the lights from the port. I was very underwhelmed.

Nice pics. They were slightly less intense here with plenty of red but less green. It’s the first time I’ve seen them from the UK.

ha, and back in the day when every street had sodium street lights, the night sky had a perpetual orange glow to it.
