Is the first question on the BBC application form "Are you a sex pest (Yes/No)?" Still, some rude jokes to colleagues doesnt quite plumb the depths of soliciting young men online and having paedophilic images on your phone at least, like "Dear Huw". On the plus side, at least he'll now get to spend more time with/ignoring his family.

I don't think even the most ardent culture warrior is going to defend sexual improprietry. Though there was someone who tried to pass off sexual assaults as a "bit of slap and tickle" IIRC.

Depends exactly what it is. So far it seems to be sexualised jokes, which if that's all it is then it's very different from the other BBC misdemeanours. Bit silly from him though, given he's been warned about it in 2018. You'd think he'd knock it on the head after that, if he's got a brain in his nut.

So where do you draw the line when it comes to sexual deviance? Is there some forms of sexual miscreancy that you consider acceptable? Laying with one's sister I presume? :D

Brute! Seriously though, there's no line to draw - just a sliding scale from non-criminal, but grim, right through to the most serious criminality.

Isn't his whole persona based around the idiot 'ordinary' man? Looks like he doesn't have to try very hard to play the part. If he gets the push, he'll be perfect for GB News. He'll be just saying it how it is etc etc.

trouble is that with these stories you never know where on that scale things are alleged to have occurred. for very good reasons vague descriptions of the allegations are used. if it was just a case of someone allegedly telling inappropriate jokes in the workplace that would be at the very low end of the scale. i suspect many celebrities don't really understand that a tv set and locations are workplaces like any other.

The following isn;t a defense of Wallace, more just an observation: It's perfectly possible to be an 'ordinary', 'tell it like it is' or 'working' man, without being a right wing rabid arsehole - such people exist on the left too, although often knocking on a bit. I can think of a few, at least.

Agree. I have a feeling that detail, context and nuance will decide this particular story.

True, and often the case that the initial allegations turn out to be just the tip of the iceberg and there's much darker stuff comes out after. [Post edited 28 Nov 2024 14:49]

and he grew up at a time when both 'cheeky chappies' and greengrocers told 'blue' jokes. not realising that you don't do that now in workplaces may be his only sin (or as others have pointed out, there may be other stuff to come).
