It feels along the lines of the usual MO.
Release the edgy but not that bad stuff, and wait for the lip-service apology and statement that confirms that the person in question may have said questionable things, but has never done anything more than that.
Wait a few days.
Release the text messages/videos/pictures.

trouble is that with these stories you never know where on that scale things are alleged to have occurred. for very good reasons vague descriptions of the allegations are used. if it was just a case of someone allegedly telling inappropriate jokes in the workplace that would be at the very low end of the scale. i suspect many celebrities don't really understand that a tv set and locations are workplaces like any other. |
based on this, and again there may be more and worse to come out, it feels to be at the very low end of the scale. certainly not appropriate in the workplace but probably of minimal impact in many other settings. professionalism is a must in the workplace and means that everyone is comfortable and is included - it is different to the pub. but it does seem a bit hypocritical to have a 'celebrity' who essentially trades on screen as being a 'cheeky chappie' and a south london greengrocer from the 1970s and then clutch our pearls when it turns out that he's like that in real life. it's not acceptable in the workplace, and he should absolutely know that, but in another setting it would hardly be shocking?

This isn't a post defending him, though if the alleged is true - it does seem miles apart from what we've seen with other sex allegations.
Early in his career, I suspect that Wallace had a habit of making sexual jokes as a form of banter with no intention of being predatory or offensive... you know, just a bit of banter. As time went by and his celebrity grew the explicit nature of the allegations got more explicit and horrible, and I suspect he was feeling bullet proof as a biproduct of his popularity.
Does this mean people should go easy on him? Probably not, he made people feel unsafe and had the opportunity to correct himself following a warning- instead, he got more and more explicit. (Do you stick your finger up your boyfriend's bum?)
The basic facts are he's not seemingly done anything illegal and not physically engaged, or attempted to engage, with anyone. This is a case of extreme sexual harassment rather than rape, assault, trafficking, or paedophilia.

But I largely agree with the rest (and what lowhouse has said). Just seems like a cheeky chappie (we all know a few) who's maybe over-stepped the line a bit.
