Adam Schiff, senator representing California, sent a letter to The Ethics Committee chairman about insider trading and received a confirmation that they had received it.

Fun fact: the last time they confirmed receiving his letter Trump sacked the chairman.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Nothing the President does in an official capacity is illegal (thanks to the Supreme Court) and he can pardon all his mates. No wonder they're all laughing.

You mean ‘thanks to the President’!

He’s making George Orwell look increasingly impressive with the foresight in his novel ‘1984’.

I was thinking this yesterday; I wouldn't be surprised if turning the markets volatile wasn't a mistake at all - it was just so his mates (for themselves and for him) could buy low then sell high.

It's corruption, simple as that.

In olden times the plebs would be rising up in civil war. Given his fans defend anything he does (including sexual assault) then I've no doubt they'll be fine with this too.

What a disgusting world we live in. When are Trump supporters going to wake up?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Is anyone remotely surprised?

As someone else above said, it's all been part of the plan. And they are untouchable, because of immunity or pardons. The glimmer of hope may be a prosecution at state level, perhaps? Doubt anything will come of it.

As for the MAGA supporters, they either won't care, or won't ever hear about it. Fox has barely covered the impact of the tariffs, if what I've been led to believe is correct.

Business Today on BBC News interviewed a small business owner in the States who has just paid $158,000 for goods in China and would have to pay a $229,000 tariff to bring them into the US.

It was meant to be picked up in a container yesterday and she has managed to get the supplier "graciously" to keep it there while she figures out what to do because she doesn't have $229,000 to pay the tariff.

She is now going to look at selling it elsewhere because otherwise her business won't survive.

As it is, the US is dependent on China for 73% of its smartphones, 78% of its laptops and 87% of its video games consoles, and whilst Apple is trying to switch to India, all India-made iPhones would only account for 50% of US demand this year.

Short of impeachment (a political process which runs through Congress and requires a crime to have been committed), ill health (in theory, never been done) or assassination (comes with its own set of problems), there is no way to forcibly remove a sitting President during his term.

Oh, that was quie likely to have been somebody's original intention. It just didn't work and caused too much fuss. Plus others may have decided it was too good an opportunity to miss for making a quick buck.

This administration is not thinking with a single mind, or making coherent plans. It's whoever persuades Doddery Donald to do stuff in the moment.

Yeah, just parroting the mad ramblings of some mainstream economist on X.

I think my favourite of all time on here was a chap who compared economists to those who work in medicine. If medical professionals applied dimensional analysis the same way economists do, then we would have a lot of dead people.

“Mainstream economist”.

Almost as inane as constantly calling out qualified people who do it for their paid work. Especially when the extent of your knowledge is ‘I spoke to some people’.

The economist stated that Neoclassical theory expects a fall in yields under these conditions. The observation was a rise in yields. The theory is bunk.

Could explain how Neoclassical models are dimensionally consistent? I could post some climate change papers by Neoclassical economists if you like and you can explain how these models work.

I noticed the nonsense you posted on climate change and the energy transition, and just to reinforce Phil's point, you simply don't understand useful energy, useful exergy or path dependence. Your post was bunk.

I am part of several discussion groups including at INET, IIPP and LML, we hold public discussions from time to time so if you think we are wrong, you are more than welcome to present your knowledge at one of these events.

Someone in the business department of BBC quoted J K Gabraith (the respected economist) the other day when things were rather shambolic and it made me laugh.

‘The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable.’

EDIT: Here's another one.

“There are two kinds of forecasters: those who don’t know, and those who don’t know they don’t know.”

So it’s untrue that China is subsidising coal produced energy to boost its manufacturing industry? Nope.

The view that not all borrowing is going to generate growth is from within the industry, not a hobby blogger so to suggest someone similarly unqualified know better is pretty arrogant. Most of the stuff you post is contradictory, like suggesting investors primary concern is protecting their assets from climate change. I make no judgement on the morality, but if that were the case you’d be awash with capital from the state and benevolent investors rather than constantly decrying a lack of funding.

I haven’t argued anything regarding climate change because I’m similarly unqualified to talk to it as you are on economics. Happy to get some comments on the subject from my barber, he’s unqualified on the subject but he’s read a few internet articles. I get the flaws in forecasting, but it’s also understanding how things work in the real world, which seems to be the bit you struggle with. Clearly you aren’t a fan of people who’ve studied economics , but I’m not interested in some sort of internet gripe so I’ll leave it there for our interactions.
