I’ve got us gaining another 13 points which would give us a final total of 85..do we think this would be enough for promotion?

If it isn’t either borough or Millwall have won all their games to the end of the season, as they can only make a maximum of 87 now.

I did a league calculator about a month ago that had us taking three points combined from this Easter weekend (which included Southampton at the time) + Norwich away next week and going up, so having beaten Birmingham I feel like we’ve got a bit of a buffer now.

Four wins out of seven I think will do it for us, especially if one of them is against Boro. Seven points by next Sunday and we are basically one foot in the Prem.

well I’ve got us down as drawing against Boro so 85 max for them if I’m right…

It probably will be if we manage that, I thought before yesterday's match that winning that one - however we could - was the most important one as it means we don't need to win next weekend.

It's very much ours to lose now, 15 points would pretty much guarantee promotion now given the goal difference.

Every chance we lose next week and it will be how we react to that, which will determine our automatic chances (or not).

Predictions:
- Lose Norwich, win the next four, lose Southampton and a win needed vs QPR on the last day.

Yes, it would do.

We are a good week away from having one foot in the Prem.

If we win 4 of the next 6 I can't see us needing a win on the final day to go up. It'd mean we'd have beaten Boro so they'd be out of the race (because of our superior GD) even if they'd won their other three games between now and then. Millwall would have to win their next 4 in a row to go into the final day in contention in that scenario too.

Missed this thread before I started mine...

Neither Boro or Millwall look like winning 5 games in a row. At the business end of a season, under pressure, that feels very unlikely. Which would mean 13 points is definitely enough for us assuming Boro can't turn around the GD deficit. There is actually potential that we could almost limp over the line with something like 10 points from 7 games. If Boro/Millwall go W3, D1, L1 then that would be enough for us.

Opta supercomputer thinks we’ll get 10/11 more points.

https://theanalyst.com/competi

I think we’ll get 12.

Millwall look like they have the easiest run-in but they’ll drop 3/4 points in the next 5 games so 12 points will be enough.

Ive maintained for many weeks now that If we beat Boro, Millwall, and Hull, we'd likely get promoted.

Not sure when Hackney gets back into their team but suspect it'll be in time for our game . Hes the one that makes them tick ... Millwall we got a draw and Hull we beat ... so, beat Boro ( or more importantly not lose ) and as has already been said the others at around us must also win just about all their remaining games. I suspect we will lose v scum, but as before when we got promoted , we lost to them, and it didn't affect us .. Much the same this season I think ..

We got 5 away and 2 at home. But we have Southampton, Norwich, WBA and Charlton away, all tough aways, the only easier game on paper looks like Pompey away. Our away form also is not great.

As for home games, we have Boro and QPR. Again, neither are easy games, QPR are no mugs and often steal 3 pts away from home.

We are a long way from promotion still imo.

I think we’ll surprise a few in our run-in.
We tend to do well against the teams that try to compete and struggle against the teams that sit deep and defend.

All games in this league can be difficult, especially at the business end of the season so I certainly take no fixture for granted. But similarly, Millwall and Boro are in the same boat. The difference is that we have two games to score points that they can do nothing about. Even if we win one, lose one we are starting from a base of being effectively 4 points ahead of them with the GD advantage.

We are definitely in a good position now. Our worst 7 game run since our poor start in August has (I think, checked quickly but didn't go through with a fine toothed comb) yielded 11 points. If we take 11 points between now and the end of the season then we'll finish on 83 points, meaning with GD Boro or Millwall would need to take 12 points from their remaining 5 games. They'd need a big uptick in form to overhaul us even if we only manage to match some of our poorer form.

I have tried predicting games this season and although I don't profess to be the worlds best tipster I find it hugely difficult to say this match looks like a draw, this one is three points and I reckon they will lose that one.
So we could just as easily beat Boro and lose to Posh. I sincerely hope not, but that's the mad world of football.
The Budgies drew at home to Pompey and then beat Millwall.
Boro can't buy a win despite doing as we did against Millwall and battering them first half and dropping in a hole the second.
In our favour are the two games in hand and superior goal difference. But we have to make them count and that is probably the most important thing.

Yeah, but watch all that 'logic' 'go out the window if we lose to Norwich at the weekend...

Oh if we lose to Norwich then promotion will 100% be off the table and in fact we should start worrying about being relegated to League 1.

Norwich A - Draw
Portsmouth A - Win
Middlesbrough H - Loss
Charlton A - Win
West Brom A - Draw
Southampton A - Loss
QPR H - Win

That's quite pessimistic and even so that's 10 pts leaving us on 82 points

Middlesbrough and Millwall would need 11 points from their last 5 games to overhaul us so win 4 out if 5 or go unbeaten. Can maybe see Wall doing it with their fixtures but still seems like we suddenly have some much needed margin for error, I feel confident we'll do it now which is an 180 swing from how things looked on Friday!

A draw at Norwich wouldn't be a bad result, but with their lack of strikers & the quality of our defenders, we shouldn't be going into this game thinking 'oh we can afford to lose this one and we'll still be ok thanks to our games in hand'.
We should be going for the win as we are a better side with better players all through the team.
The midfield will be key, so we have to be winning that battle, with Nunez dropping deeper to help out from the #10 spot, when we're out of possession. Taylor & Neil to step up if Matusiwa is not fit.
