| Walton - player of the season 17:21 - Apr 26 with 1405 views | jungleboy | Walton has been outstanding this year. He has the confidence of our defence and is cool and calm. He was unlucky to lose his place to Hladky at the start of 23-24 and played brilliantly when we beat Chelsea last season, but we then bought Palmer. He has been so consistent this season. And what loyalty to the club. He gets my vote for player of the season by a long way! | | | | |

Shouldn't have to be one or the other. We would need a new goalkeeper among lots of other positions. Not taking away from Waltons play this season. [Post edited 26 Apr 18:41]

| Walton - player of the season on 18:56 - Apr 26 with 1212 views | Swansea_Blue | He’s been good and wasn’t far off Hladky when he was here (who was better suited to how we played). He’s a tad indecisive compared to some, which stops him being an even better keeper but that’s nit picking. He’s had a very good season and must be up there in the top 5 keepers in the league. O’Shea or the dark horse, ever reliable Matusiwa are POTS for me (Matusiwa’s been a revelation considering he’s not played in English football before - none of this needing time to settle stuff for him, he’s just got on with it. Clarke’s going to be in with a good shout of POTS too with his goals. I wouldn’t say any of them are standout - they’ve all been good in different ways. | |

It's not personal, we probably need to replace the whole team if we are going to stay up (being realistic unfortunately)

And being realistic, sadly I think you're at the least, largely correct.

Glory goes to goalscorers, creative types, but he's been very reliable, and earnt us a valuable point the other day. His pen save at Watford was vital. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Walton is out of contract in the summer so doesn't that make him likely to leave given that we'll be likely to get another in. He's been very good recently though.

Didn’t he sign an extension for a further year or two? Forgive me if I’ve got that wrong!

A top quality goalkeeper who can command our box is our number one priority.

That's my only gripe, he's bloody tall, but often I feel he could come and collect stuff he doesn't. That said, I'm not a keeper and boxes are very crowded places, so it's obviously not an easy thing to do.
| Walton - player of the season on 12:49 - Apr 27 with 724 views | Rimsy | Trouble is, we've got a really poor record of signing keepers when we're promoted. Always a risk a keeper isn't up to the task. I'd be happy to go with the 2 we have, both settled and trusted but the defence. | |

If Muric had Walton's composure then we'd have the perfect keeper.

It would likely be a new defence anyway so not sure that is so important.

Because he's not good enough with either his feet or his hands for the Premier League. When you see that Muric couldn't cut it and he is twice the keeper Walton is technically.

No chance of getting Trafford. I do like Rushworth but think you can get better, we just need our scouts to find their passports.

Muric couldn't cut it because of his regular rushes of blood to the head. His technical ability stood up to the challenge My worry with Walton, and i'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in this thread already, is how often he makes a save but parries the ball back into danger. This will get punished far more regularly and happen far more frequently in the prem

Let's not jettison our GK this time if we go up. Much to be said for bonding at the back, especially between the two CBs and keeper. Burnley replaced their keeper and almost the whole of their backline when they went up. They went from conceding 15 the whole of 2024/25 to 68 so far this season. Like they had, we've the meanest defence in the Champ.

Burnley had no choice, Trafford had a buy-back clause with City. And as good as Walton has been, he's nowhere near the levels of Trafford. Rushworth has been the standout keeper in the championship this season, and possibly Vitek at Bristol. Walton was poor in the Premier League last time around. Maybe a year as our number 1 will have helped to build his confidence, but if Rushworth was an option then i'd be very very surprised if we weren't in for him.
