I think we are reading too much into it, and that owes more to clubs simply not wishing to get involved. At the end of the day, Southampton have nobody but themselves to blame.

There will undoubtedly be a wave of new EFL rules and requirements for clubs to adhere to next season off the back of this.

its the kind of thing you cant imagine one lone club suddenly deciding "what if..." is it, and at the same time seems something out of the 80s, with so much tv coverage of every team in every game, heat maps, stats analysis, literally companies who make money out of analysing how teams play, where is the possible gain anymore anyway ?

but maybe we are being cynical, the reaction at least from those closer to the game than us mere fans, is one of shock, not yeah we kind of knew some teams might be doing this but turned a blind eye..

but then I think the reaction would be the same if it turned out a team were doping all their players up on performance enhancing drugs, even though chances are high that is probably happening too.
