Leeds have signed Harry Wilson on a free from Fulham 15:08 - Jun 24 with 2204 viewsRadlett_blue

10 goals & 7 assists last season. I'm sure it's high wages for a 29 year old, but they want to improve their team.
Oh, and Hull are facing a points deduction next season after over-spending. They might need to make a player sale next week.

Manager is really settled there

Good off field momentum

And that’s a very good signing to build on an already decent squad

Good manager. It wasn't long ago people were saying 'he's not a premier league manager' because he flopped up there with Norwich a couple of times, as if its all as binary as 'he's Premier League" and "he's Championship".

Goes to show what having a squad that's competitive enough for the division can do. Lets hope we can give O'Neil that over the next 10 weeks.

Fulham have gone under the radar for too long.

If they don't start well with their new bod in charge they could within our reach.

I think Arbeloa has the potential to be a total disaster as well.

Let’s nip in and get Ollie McBurnie for our 2 nd striker then.

There are better strikers and better people than Ollie McBurnie out there.

Smart piece of business from DF and his team in my opinion. The only way to improve a team is by getting better players, or if you're a wise football club, also having a very fruitful academy, just like we once had, and hopefully will do so again eventually, when it starts bearing fruit.

It’s a good job for Norwich that having sacked Farke, they appointed proven premier league manager Dean Smith. Funny to remember that whilst their fans joke incessantly about us appointing GON.

I have both Bournemouth and Fulham as possible strugglers next season. Bournemouth have already lost a few and Alex Scott is reported to be on his way as well. Fulham have had their time and belong in the Championship, along with Hull and Coventry. Fingers firmly crossed.

Such a good player, and a serious shot fired to move them forward, he was linked with champions league teams this season, very good player.

They’ve shown the way. They spent almost the same (slightly less) as us, but their talent ID has been three or four levels above ours.

This is the worry. Ashton has made himself the only real voice on talent ID, he clearly enjoys it, but also isn’t anywhere near good enough at the most elite level.

Teams are signing world class players for actually less than what we’ve spent the last two years on EFL players, and it’s no coincidence NONE of the world class talent is in the EFL.

It’s a self selecting pool.., EPL is a world class standard and needs a global/elite approach.., let’s judge in August but the same people and process, and already we’re falling behind.

Stach, Okenfor (what a player), DCL, their Swedish left back, Bijol, Ampadu, these are a couple of levels above our best players, maybe even more.

The recruitment failures is one (of many) reasons we lost a generational manager, I don’t see any change - Ashton just can’t let go.

I just hope GON is allowed to add value and has some gems form France up his sleeve, Sunderland worked that market a treat, and surely that has to be a GON USP, get us some French league gems that are better quality and better value.

Fingers crossed.

Good player. Hit a real purple patch but tailed off in the final couple of months last season though. Previous seasons his goalscoring record has been ok.

On a free, as good as it gets though and a good pick up from Leeds. I feel like he should have gone to Italy though.

Not really comparable though, Leeds have spent 4 of the past 6 years in the Premier League, we went back to back from L1. As a consequence they had much deeper pockets and flexibility from a PSR point of view, and were starting from a higher base in terms of quality and depth of squad, as well as a greater pulling power. They had an £80m front 4 in the Championship when we finished above them. Our PL spend probably caught us up with them at the time, when they were still in the Championship, but little more than that.

There are certainly some valid question marks about some of our recruitment though, as there is of some of Leeds', but not all of it. We spent a reasonable amount in the PL, £120m, with 98% of it across 9 players (per Transfermarkt). Philogene, O'Shea, Clarke & Greaves still represent decent value, we would get back more than we paid on balance. We made profit on Delap & Omari, and broadly got the fee back on Muric. Szmodics & Ogbene are the outliers, £18m on those 2 combined felt too much at the time and they haven't aged well. I think both will leave this summer and we would do very well to get 1/3 of that back.

We're at a higher base now though. We shifted from defying the odds in the Championship in 2024, to everyone's favourite to win it last season, coming 2nd. We hosted Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season with a central midfield 2 of Luongo and Morsy, Chaplin in the 10, Marcus Harness and Ali Al-Hamadi coming off the bench. 2 years later and 3 are without a club after spells at Millwall, Bristol City and Portsmouth, and the other 2 were in L1 and not tearing up any trees.

We need to get our recruitment right this summer, but supplementing this squad with £150m worth of talent is a very different proposition to doing so to a squad that largely was in L1 18 months prior.
