I have been to Glasgow a few times over the years with work (so never saw anything) but myself and Mrs C will be going there for a few days in a couple of weeks time. What are the best things to see there, beyond the inside of a bar and a curry house?
| Glasgow on 12:16 - Jun 29 with 1135 views | ArnoldMoorhen | The Ubiquitous Chip is a legendary restaurant on the Glasgow dining scene which I highly recommend. The Modern Art Gallery, for the exhibitions but also for the statue of the Duke of Wellington with a cone on his head. Kelvingrove Park and the Museum. Small but pleasant Botanical Gardens. Check who will be on at The Stand Comedy Club when you are there, and consider booking. Glasgow is more about the vibe than particular "attractions", in my opinion. It's got lots of neighbourhoods with independent, long established cafes and restaurants. I love a day out there. Consider a trip out to Loch Lomond if the weather is nice. | | | |

Thank you for that. All suggestions gratefully received. We’ve a couple of days at the end of it staying in a place called Balloch for the wedding we are going to. I believe that’s on or close to Loch Lomond/the national park. Should be interesting as I don’t know Scotland at all.

Never mind the Ballochs (it's a bit of a Hastings to Glasgow's London) and get yourself back into the city. Moorhen's recommendation of Kelvingrove is heartily seconded and I would suggest setting aside half a day for that, also the Merchant City area is an interesting part to walk around. The Necropolis is a surprising outdoor attraction (in the same way that Highgate Cemetery or Pére Lachaise in Paris are) but not if the rain is teeming down....A walk along the Clyde from the city centre north to the Riverside Museum ( https://www.alltrails.com/en-g ) is as good a city walk as you will get anywhere, but again not if the weather is dreich. I would recommend Viet Fresh on Argyle Street for an affordable and interesting lunch and early dinner option but I think you would baulk at the tofu in the vegetarian option... Used to be my go-to place to spend time when between flights in Glasgow. https://burrellcollection.com/ https://burrellcollection.com/

Balloch is on the banks of Loch Lomond. If you have wheels and enjoy Twisties, the roads are fab (except for the campers and tourists). Easy to spend a day playing, just head up towards Glencoe/Fort William If that's your thing, you'll love it

We are there for a wedding in Balloch and are actually travelling by train. So time being limited, the aim is to particularly make the most of Glasgow. I wouldn’t mind exploring Scotland properly one day. Ireland too - never been there. [Post edited 29 Jun 17:57]

It might even be in Balloch, no idea myself so I suggest a DM to Glassers.
