| Dear Lower North - Sunday we’ll play a team on P6W6 F16A0 14:48 - Nov 3 with 3310 views | unstableblue | With Rayan, Kluivert, Tavernier and Evanilson in attack. This is a game where any chance of success is going to come from all Town players being on their game, and crucially from the get go they’ll need the crowd to boost them and to intimidate the opposition players. Another morgue like atmosphere from our key supporting area ain’t going to cut the mustard I’m afraid. Bring da noize - COYFB | |

It’s the Lower North vs in-form Bournemouth with some Ipswich players on the pitch as avatars (nay conduits) to the rabid baying cauldron of blue energy that is the Town support come 2pm Sunday. Or something like that. But yeah any chance of us playing well enough to garner a result will need everything to click.

The noise will come from the Lower North as that is the central atmosphere generator of PR, but it needs to be echoed by the other stands too. I've been in the LN for 15 years now and PR is at it's best when everyone is loud and reacting to the game (like when the whole ground breaks into Oh when the Town). Synchronised simple chants that everyone knows is the best way to get it going in there. [Post edited 3 Nov 15:54]

I think it’s been pretty unanimous criticism of the Lower North of late, but yes I’ve mentioned it a few times. Forest on a Friday night under the lights when the team were battling there has to be better backing. From that key stand. But agree that the lower needs to lead, and in general the upper north and side stands adjacent do join in pretty consistently. There was some debate (not from me) that it’s the demographic, as in that it’s ageing a bit in the lowe north and the yoof are in Block A. But the away ends have people of every age signing and urging the players on throughout. Not sure if a 2pm Sunday kick off lends itself to a good atmosphere. But again behind my bravado, is a simple point, the players will need the fans Sunday.

As someone who sits in the Lower North, and sings from minute 0 to minute 90+, its getting a bit tiresome being told by supporters from other stands that the lower north specifically need to sing up. Especially when the rest of the stadium sits in near total silence.

While I agree, I'm just saying that it isn't exclusive to the Lower North, Block A need to do more too. They have moved away which has hindered the atmosphere by splitting up the singing section, and while I know they try and do some really good things, the constant drumming and overcomplicated songs that don't spread doesn't help, especially when the LN are trying to get a simple song going while BA do a long song no one knows. Most fans don't want to learn a all the words to a song, they just want something simple & effective that they can get behind and spread. I think the demographic of PR as a whole is aging, we;re not the youngest part of the country, but I don't buy that's why, because I see some old boys around me giving it more than some of the ultras do to be honest. Alot of young people still come in the LN because they know it's the central atmosphere generator and without it, PR won't get going. Simple as. I guess we agree on that point, that the LN is the leader and needs to up it a bit, but that others need to follow and spread too. I fully agree that PR needs to be rocking to help push the players on, especially when facing sides in good form like Bournemouth will be. I don't really fear any team that comes to PR apart from the obvious Arsenal and Man City, but everyone else I think we can beat, especially when the atmosphere takes off.

Agree. The other three stands need to step it up and help spread the atmosphere, the LN can't do it alone and everyone else just sit and expect us to do it all, then complain when that doesn't happen. I've seen the other stand get involved on occasion and it gets very loud, should be alot more regular than it currently is. If the 3 other stands weren't there, LN would still generate an atmosphere. If the LN wasn't there, it would be absolutely silent in PR.

I am not sure it will be very noisy at all if we aren't winning. I suspect we will be beaten comfortably on Saturday in any case.

You are aware that a large chunk of people now in the ground are old, right, you aren't going to get the noise out of a large % of the support. They booed our League One promotion celebrations! There's one old boy in the Pioneer, with his wife, who actively complains if supporters start singing or jumping up. He's in the family area, and has been in trouble with the club for getting confrontational over it. That's what we're dealing with!

Yep - Blue Action need to be relocated into the Lower North (and in the middle) and be encouraged to do as many displays as possible - as well as to wave as many big flags as possible.

That is stereotyping at it's worst. I see plenty of 'youngsters' (probably 3-4 decades younger than me and my wife) who spend the entire game glued to their phones or talking sh!t that's nothing to do with the game, whilst my wife and I are singing along, giving it to the away supporters and on our feet given any half decent excuse. Age has nothing to do with it, it's all about the wrong attitude - which can afflict any age, and can be seen across all ages in the ground.

Can’t they at least stand up together so we get all the hip joints clicking at the same time ? I can’t get to PR very often and noticed the north was particularly quiet when I did go this season. We’re a funny crowd though. We can be loud, but it takes quite a bit to get us going. We don’t have a hard core that are bang on it every game. It’s the same away as well. There have been some honkingly bad atmospheres at some away games last year despite pushing for promotion. And then the next one it’ll be bouncing.

Isn’t that the case with a lot of other clubs fans as well? I’ve only been to Anfield once as well as Sunderland but on those occasions both grounds were very quiet. Also when we beat Villa away a few years ago their fans were also very quiet. I’m sure the grounds mentioned can be very noisy at times as well. Think it’s more noticeable at PR as that’s the ground which we identify with the most - and so when it’s very quiet, we automatically compare it to when it’ has been nosier. Maybe it’s problematic of a lot of English stadiums - whilst watching the CL it is quite noticeable how much more partisan fans such as PSG are in comparison to Arsenal etc etc. Saying that Blue Action, need to be relocated to the Lower North.
