Keane Delighted With Victory Monday, 5th Apr 2010 21:53
Boss Roy Keane was delighted with Town’s 3-1 victory at Derby, hailing it the type of performance the Blues need to produce more often away from home, but was unhappy with the Rams’ late goal.
Keane said: "We made hard work of it as usual. We gave a shocking goal away but three goals away from home, we'll take that. I enjoyed the game, it was a good battle out there which I knew it would be.
"We are just focused on winning football matches and we've not done enough of that this year, but today was about rolling your sleeves up.
"These are the kind of performances we need. We are trying to change the mindset of what Ipswich is seen to be, particularly away from home where we are probably seen as a soft touch and we have got to change that.
"We need to start turning in performances like that on a regular basis if we are to progress.
"There was lots going on. Decisions to be made but going away from home and scoring three goals is something we have not done very often this season and it's very rewarding.
"Connor showed great maturity for his goal. It's been a good week for him, but I don't want to single out individuals because it was a good team performance."
After the game, referee Jonathan Moss confirmed that both Stephen Pearson and Derby boss Nigel Clough had been sent off for foul and abusive language. Clough admitted that he may have sworn at the official prior to being sent to the stand: "Quite possibly, yes.
"The referee asked me to repeat something. I did and I asked was he sending me off for that, and he wouldn't answer.
"He asked me to go, so I went and sat in the stand. He then asked me to move higher but the stand is the stand. It has to be something I said.
"I think it was for something [Stephen Pearson] said as well as he was walking away, but I don't think it was aimed at the referee.
"But we have missed a good opportunity to get another point or three on the board. Despite all the warnings before the game about not conceding early, we conceded after three minutes from a corner.
"That's the most disappointing thing, all the talking done in the last 48 hours, to stay unbeaten, that's the mentality we are still some way from instilling."

Phatcookie - I hope you are a girl ending your post with kisses !!!! If you are a bloke, I am not on that particular bus thank you :) I hope I am wrong about Keane but I just cannot convince myself he is the right man for our club. But, I am NOT hoping he fails, I just want my club to do well and after this season, I am even more convinced Keane cannot do this for us all.

Unbelievebale some STILL can't admit the last two results have been good. What a shame. There is such a thing as giving a positive comment as well as a negative! Well done Roy. Two excellent results. Time to try out some youngsters, even if it means losing.

A future problem for the club, following Keane's successful 2010/11 season getting or very nearly getting Town promotion to the Premiership, is we lose him to a bigger club.

Yes you read that correctly; we just signed Connor Wickham. Gary Payne: you and the guardian were wrong as usual about RK. Eat your words little man.

keano blind faith, is it the fact that you don't like Roy Keane or is it the fact that he's not the type of manager Ipswich town have never employed before? at the end of the day it takes time to get rid of the dead wood and pals that Magilton signed and had at this club, and its not only the players he had to get rid of, the staff have had the mentality that if we play good football that good enough and its not, now Keane is changing that. yes its taking more time than we all hoped and Keane didn't help that in the summer by saying 'we'll go up this year' etc etc. but times are changing at PR and they are changing in a positive way, it has been a poor season, but Keane will be here next season so lets just get behind the team.

We are so much better placed as a club and squad than we were just one year ago, even with the irony of having a better league position then. Dear oh dear. How can so many fans have so little understanding of what constitutes progress? "oh, but the table doesn't lie" Doesn't it? Of course it does. It just doesn't forgive. Stats are plentiful, in any direction: We can note we have had the most shots in the entire league. What matters ultimately is progress within perspective. Currently, with the beginnings of a squad of players, we are far stronger. We're still a fair few players short too. I'm starting to think it's computer games that are doing it to you, in addition to the fast food culture. Keane haters should have their own chant: "KEANO OUT, RONALD MCDONALD IN Happy meal, too, please; I still refuse to accept the real world."

Before people ask why im on here at this time I've just finished a late shift at work. So end of last season, we finished on 66 pts. Magilton was responsible for all but the last few games, where Keano finished strong for us as manager. If you compare last season to this season so far it looks like this: 08/09: Pl 46 W 17 D15 L 14 GF 62 GA 53 PTS 66 09/10: Pl 42 W 12 D 18 L 12 GF 47 GA 52 PTS 54 Okay so I am always willing to accept this season has not been as productive as we would have wanted but thats not the worlds biggest difference when you look at last season and this. Granted I highly doubt it'll happen but if we win our last 4 games we level the pts we had last season. Yes, that means we have made no progress at all, from last season. But, Magilton had the time to try and get the job done, and so should Keane. If we were 21st right now dangerously close to the abyss, I would be far more behind the thoughts of getting rid of Keane. But we aren't and I just think we need to take a leaf out of take thats book, we need to "have a little patience." Nothing comes easily, and if it means Keane having a shift around in the summer and we fly next season, we'll all shut up. If Keane has a shuffle next season and the season begins to falter again, and we are stuck in the lower regions of the table again, I'm sure there'll be changes. Like him or hate him, surely he still deserves a chance. Surely. When you look at any club that has chopped or changed on managers almost every season, it's never been good has it. If someone can show me a club where the fans are always satisfied with their club, despite them always sacking / changing their backroom staff then I'll back down. This club has a proud history, and is so well respected. And it still is. Despite what some Keane haters may say. We will wreck it if we start sacking our managers after one season at a time. I just hope he is given the chance next season, which I'm sure he will. If he f@cks it up next season, even after prob 10 games he'll be on his arse. But im behind my manager until that happens.

nothing less than 10 pts from the last 4 games will do if not sack roy ...i personally think we should sack him anyway just in case he tries the same stuff next year.. brocky stick to the rabbitohs and st george dragons if you are not willing to except free speech...

Keane's biggest mistake was to come out and tell the media and effectively us, the fans (I exclude BennyBlue, and the Clown twins) that he could ge tus promoted this year, but i now out that down to naivety and the fact that it probably came easily to him at Sunderland. i happen to know that he didn't rate the squad bequeathed to him by Magilton at all, and that he actually feared relegation. Next season it is down to him and no one else - he will not ask for any excuses, and I expect him to deliver a top six finish, I think most of us feel the same, and that is NOT 'blind faith', that is a realistic considered opinion borne out of 35 years of watching Ipswich Town...
