Walters Has No Plans to Leave
Walters Has No Plans to Leave

Skipper Jon Walters says he has no plans to leave the Blues during the summer. The former Chester City striker expects Town’s 2010/11 to be better than their 2009/10 campaign.

Walters says he has heard suggestions that he might be on his way out of the club, but suspects this is because of a misunderstanding regarding his domestic arrangements: “As far as I know I’ll be here next season. This is my plan.

"I think these stories may have started because I’m now renting a house in the town after selling mine. But this is because a proposed purchase broke down.”

The 26-year-old concedes that this season hasn’t been good enough and expects more next time around: “The signs are good for a better campaign after improving greatly on our dreadful start.

“We’re a lot more solid now and have turned things around. There’s no disguising it has been a disappointing season, and we must all take our fair share of blame for this.”

Walters, who netted his eighth goal of the season at Newcastle on Saturday, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012.

Without doubt, Walters has not performed particularly well this season but who has (Macauley ......maybe). His effort and commitment are there for all to see and although an 8 goal haul is nothing to get excited about, it's more than ANYONE else. I feel he is not a genuine striker and agree that he had no natural position this season. In his most successful period, he was played in right midfield, got much joy using his aerial ability against generally smaller full backs but seemed willing to offer more width than this season. However, this has been a characteristic of the whole side and we have become increasingly narrow as the season has progressed. Maybe this has been RK's tactics, enforced after the dreadful start and designed to grind out results. I want Jonboy to stay but we must play him in his best position and he must not come into the centre and offer us some width. This would work best with some genuine width and pace brought in on the left (either an attacking midfielder or even at full back) along with a pacy striker to go alongside the ever improving Wickham. A team is about balance and it is not Walters we need to get rid of - just play him correctly and bring in the right kind of players and you will se a different Jon Walters from this season imo.

Seriously why does everyone want Walters out all of a sudden? He is a good player always tries hard as well, he has great stamina and is amazing in the air. A few average games and fans want to sell our captain get a grip people, I for one hope he is staying. He can even buy my house if he wants!

Pick 2 goalies, 6 defenders, 6 midfielders and 4 strikers. k = keep, g = gone
*Assume we dont sign anyone (other than keeping a loanee, except colback who was ruled out), your picking your 18 man squad

Lee-Barrett - k
Wright - g (wages)
Murphy - k

Peters - k
O'Connor - g
Wright - k
Rosenior - k
mcAuley - k
Delaney - k
Smith - k
Balkstein - g
Bruce - g

edwards - k
martin - g
walters - k
garvan - k
norris - k
leadbits - k
civelli - k
healy(colin)- g
Quinn - g

counago - k
priskin - k
murphy - g
stead - k
healy(david) - g
wickham - k

I think now that we have a relatively established midfield and defence, priskin stead will do alot better next season if given the chance. Murphy wont give us anything stead doesnt already provide and we already have stead so lets spend some money elsewhere if at all.

only my opinion ofcourse, interested to see who others would keep if they were Roy.

My 11 would be:

murphy

R - d-wright
mac
delaney
L - peters

R - Edwards
Leads
Norris
L - Walters

Priskin
Stead

Wickham to be used in as many games as he can handle etc.

Good god some of you need putting out of your misery. Jon's had an average season, I think maybe the armband weighs heavy on him (he certainly a big character, but not quite captain material for me) and no, he hasn't yet recaptured the kind of form he showed in his first season. However, 8 goals, most of them from midfield or out wide, is an excellent return. Anybody who thinks we should be trying to sell him doesn't know their backside from their elbow, end of.

I really hope somebody comes in for him because at best he is just an average Championship player, no more. He certainly is not good enough to take us to a higher level. Bye Jon....
