Wright Set for MLS Trial
Wright Set for MLS Trial
Monday, 6th Sep 2010 09:03

Released Town keeper Richard Wright is reportedly set for a trial with Frank Yallop’s San Jose Earthquakes. Wright is said to be flying out to the US to try his luck with the MLS club later this week.

The 32-year-old, who has been training with George Burley’s Crystal Palace since leaving Town at the end of last season, was last week linked with Blackpool, who subsequently signed Ghanaian keeper Richard Kingson.

Meanwhile, ex-Blues striker James Scowcroft has joined his local club Bury Town. Scowcroft, 34, has been training with the Ryman League Premier Division side for some months having been released by Leyton Orient at the end of last season.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of wrighty and glad for everything he did for us. However rumour has it he rejected the choice to be Man City 3rd choice because he didnt want to move his family out of school and even if he did he wouldnt want to buy a new house but he couldnt afford to rent a 5 bedroom :S (My source is a woman who talks to mrs wright at their kids school) So all of a sudden going off to America seems a strange choice.

If it wasnt for his poor attitude I think he would have found a club closer to home but since he left us first time around he has become a big headed failure and its a pity to see both him and Scowie where they are now with still a few years left in the pair of them at a higher level.

I still can't quite understand why he's not playing for a championship team. He was our player of the year a year back, shorely goalkeepers don't go cr@p overnight

Helping Ipswich into the big time, being capped by England, big money move to Arsenal.......... and then what?

I wonder whether he will ever look back on his career and wonder where it went wrong, or has he been happy playing second fiddle for what was supposed to be his peak.

Harsh comments in here. Personally I don't think he should have been dropped last season and don't see why he isn't still our number 1 (other than wages). Fulop only played 4 games and already seen him pull off a clanger at Palace away. All much of a muchness.

Disappointing to see the way his career has gone. I remember seeing him play as a 17 year old at Hillsborough, his talent was clear to see.

I dont think he has a strong enough mentality to be a top keeper, and I can imagine that Keane's approach was too unforgiving for him and he prob couldnt handle the pressure.

Best of luck to him, but I think he has to accept his fair share of the blame for a wasted career over the past 10 years. Well when I say wasted Im not including the c.£4-5m he has made!!

He does not have a bad attitude.... When he was injured he was devastated and wanted to start training asap A* guy from what I have heard from couple of mates who have spoken to him a few times.

Well I hope his career ends well and he can get a club, as for us I think Fulop is a better keeper. Wright/Murphy I think is a fairly close pairing however given Murphy would be on a lot less in the wage department I would stick with him.

That could well see out his few final years. He was a quality keeper.

I think it's really strange that he can't get fixed up with a club here. He's a decent goalkeeper - OK maybe not lived up to the expectation of earlier years, but better than many Championship keepers. Surely it can only be high wage demands from him, or is there something about him we don't know
