Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Sunday, 28th Nov 2010 16:29

Town boss felt his team was made to pay for poor decision making after the 4-1 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road. Keane refused to criticise referee Keith Hill for Grant Holt’s controversial first goal or Damien Delaney’s red card just before half-time.

Keane said: “Poor decision-making and giving teams a helping hand has cost us. It was a long second half and it was very hard for us to get back into it. We took a bit of a gamble in the last 15 or 20 minutes and we opened the door to conceding more goals.

“It doesn’t matter what I think about the sending off. Let’s not waste our time and energy talking about whether there was cover, whether he actually pulled him back, the ball should have been cleared, simple as that. Same for the first goal.

“I’m not going to sit here and question the officials, there’s been enough of that over the last few weeks from other managers and other countries.”

The Blues boss felt his players made it difficult for themselves: “In any game of football, whether you’re a professional or an amateur, you’ve got to do the basics right and we didn’t do that today, whether that’s for the first couple of goals or the sending off. You make it very hard for yourself.

“At 2-1, even though we’d gifted two goals away, I think we were very much in the game. It was pretty open, they were causing us problems, but I thought we’d be OK. But then there was the sending off not long before half-time.

“We’re not good enough to be giving away goals like that and to be playing with 10 men. We’ve not won the last few games with 11.

“With 10 it wasn’t impossible because at 2-1 we were keeping it tight and trying to nick something on the break or from a set piece, but it wasn’t to be.”

Keane admits that he’s under pressure after four successive defeat and with the Blues having dropped to 16th but says it comes with the territory: “When you lose matches, it creates pressure but that comes with the job. You know that when you come into it and you’ve got to deal with it.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert was delighted with Canaries hat-trick hero Grant Holt: “I thought Grant was unplayable at times. I thought him and Chris Martin were a handful right from the off and when those two play the way they can do, we’ve always got a chance.”

Is there any chance that if Keane does go that some of you will shut up the f*ck up with your negative chanting during the games? I thought we played well to get it back to 1-1 and as soon as Delaney got sent off, it was inevitable! who was going to win the game. Fulop played well in my eyes and made some great saves, and only made one mistake.

The whole performance was a disgrace, o'dea has not been in suffolk for 2 weeks and walks into the team, makes a mockery of training!! Where were townsend and peters??

Keane: "Poor decision making let us down"

Too right mate, but I think most Town fans realise whose 'poor decision making' is really at fault here over a two year period...

No more words - unless they're going to be Keane admitting, "I am out of my depth, I just don't know how to turn this around and so I need to do the decent thing and step down before I ruin this club..."

Hmmm, not feeling that'll happen though - I predict long, painful months ahead, replete with awful excuses, lower gates, disillusionment until Roy runs out his contract, takes his money (like he needs it!!!) and then goes off to mess up some other naive club who value a 'big name' rather than a competent, proven manager...

It's really not funny anymore (was it ever?)

Keane - PLEASE GO!!!

Whilst I accept that Roy Keane is not helping himself with some of the strange substitutions and playing players out of position the players must also take responsibility. Agree with Keane regarding the two defensive errors the first was a straight forward kick into touch the second Delaney got a tough then tried to turn which was a schoolboy error. Not a sending off though. Edwards Priskin and Norris deserve a pat on the back for their efforts but why take off Scotalnd when he together with Priskin were causing he inept Norwich defence problems. For me two very poor sides with Lansbury showing the difference in quality. What next is the big question. We look a side playing under fear and devoid of confidence. Keane much search hard for some man management skills to lift the squad. Sickening day for the club.

Whoppit, you're obviously a forum troll whose only desire is to start an argument.

So, I for one won't give you one.

Nice try though... ;0)

Not at fault for Delaney's / O'Dea's and Fulops stupidity - but 8 loses out of 11 says it all. Time to go I'm afraid.

Poor decision making? Yup. That has a lot to do with training, learned habits, team instructions and the belief with which they are sent on the pitch.

I don't know what he is doing to the players but he is certainly depressing me

I'm as annoyed/disappointed as anyone but why does Curbs name keep coming up as a future town manager, he has been out of a job for a few years now and no one wants him, all he did was buy ex Ipswich players. O'Neil will never go down a league to ours.

I have backed Keane throughout but after today he has to go. What did it for me was bringing on Healy for Scotland after we went down to 10 men. Healy hasn't played all bloody season, and let's be honest he's crud! The sending off was harsh, they're man took a massive dive and the ref bought it, but to go negative with Healy on for Scotland was dog poo.

How Townsend doesn't get in the side, Christ knows!

Keane out, before it gets worse

Curbs or Paul Jewell in please

I don't think that its fair to accuse Keane of being greedy for not resigning.
He has said in the past that he doesn't need the money and would get a job elsewhere without any difficulty.
The reason he won't resign is that he is proud and clearly genuinely believes he can turn it round.
He has made plenty of mistakes but his defenders really let him down today. I know its Christmas but there were some really panto moments, all together now 'he's behind you...'.
If he does get the sack i'd prefer someone with a connection to Town. Butcher is doing a great job at Inverness CT at the moment - he'd walk over broken glass from Scotland to have the chance to manage Town.

Neill Rumsey - well said, your comments make utter sense, unlike some of the useless drivel comments coming from some other so called fans. I totally agree, especially about the two HUGE defensive mistakes. As soon as Delaney is sent off (deserved), and then 2-1 down, its GAME OVER, i'm afraid. Sad day, but there will be plenty more derby games.

KEANE WILL STAY THE REST OF SEASON, HIS CONTRACT WILL BE HONORED, VOTE OF CONFIDENCE FROM THE BOARD ETC, so no more nonsense comments about him getting sacked, please!

Poor management from day one has let us down!

Fundamentally, 3 experienced defenders were poor today (Delaney, Zuiverloon, O'Dea) and highlighted their lack of pace and passing ability.

I will be surprised if Keane is sacked, as he will have to be paid compensation on the remainder of his contract. This is strange, because in the 'real' world, most people have a clause in the contract that allows them to be sacked for incomptetance or gross misconduct..

Another tactical masterclass from Mr Keane... the defence was shocking, the only plus point was that the RB crossed the halfway line. Leadbitter can't take set pieces.. Scotland is a s£#t selfish player, although my personal highlight of the game was seeing him taken off. I would sooner have Stead any day! or Pablo or Rhodes
Edwards at right back?
Colback at left back?
Healy even in an Ipswich shirt?
Civelli not even 15 minutes
Is Marcus Evans actually a season ticket holder in the Barclay?

this is the lowest ive ever felt as a town fan!! its got to change we cant go on with this crap, keane has not delivered he has made us a complete shambles, he has to go now and let the clean up operation begin, its going to take a while to clear his mess up the club has been taken apart by keane. many dark days ahead i fear relegation could well be round the corner and it could well do us some good, just look at norwich!!

Prawn Sandwich, are you having a laugh?
Delaney's touch and turn was p**s poor but he didn't s
deserve a sending off with two other players level and grant Holt throwing himself to the ground. When is a game ever over at 2-1 when there's still a second half to play!!!? And why will Keane be here for the rest of the season!? If he's not doing the job he promised to deliver on then he deserves to lose his job. It's as simple as that.

DenhamBlue - it's because Curbs is a decent manager.

only player left from side that relegated the budgies was Norris. So forget RK smoke screen, this is his team and not good enough (again). time to start again and rebuild the club back into the traditions town fans expect and pay to watch. FORK!
