Carroll Wants Return to English Football
Carroll Wants Return to English Football
Tuesday, 4th Jan 2011 15:35

Former Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll, who has been training with the Blues during his Danish club Odense’s winter break, wants a return to English football. Blues boss Roy Keane revealed that his one-time Old Trafford team-mate was at Playford Road last week but insisted that the 33-year-old was not amongst his January targets.

Contrary to reports in Denmark, Odense’s director of football Thomas Christensen says no talks have been held with a view to cancelling his keeper’s contract and he is expected back in Scandinavia next week: "He will start training on Monday, just like anybody else.

“There have been no negotiations between Roy and us regarding releasing him from his contract. It is only in the press that this has been the case."

However, Christensen says Carroll’s situation may change before the end of the month: "Roy has got our full understanding for wanting to return home, but his contract still runs for another year and a half. But anything can happen and the transfer window is open for quite a while yet."

Although Town keeper Brian Murphy is out for three months with a broken ankle, another senior glovesman would appear an unlikely Blues target at the present time.

Speaking last week, Keane played down any suggestion of Carroll joining Town: “Roy lives in London and Odense are on a mid-winter break, so he’s training with us before you all start thinking we’re signing him or he’s one of the targets.”

Permanent midfield (attacking) and strikers required.

I said the other day that we will end up with this muppet, he's a mate of Keane so more cash to be wasted on someone we don't need and who is well past his sell by date, just like , Campo, Thatcher, Healy and Kennedy.

Nonsense, if we didn't have Fulop already he'd be a fantastic keeper at this level. 33 for a keep is normally their prime years so hardly past his best. He was also Goalkeeper of the year in Denmark. Their top division is at least as good as Championship.

We do have Fulop though so can't afford both.

Very good in his day but he's best days are long gone.

Waste of time, but being roy mate he will get short term deal.

If you had his way I'm sure he would be happy to play keeper and ten centre backs.

They can then lump it to each other and get red cards.

Words fail me

Unlike other signings, wouldn't mind this one.
Is it wise to play Fulop every game for the next 3 months?
Lee-B isn't ready, and neither is Cropper.
Imagine an injury to Fulop right now?
Eastman would be in goal (poor lad!)

Love it Bobble, might also come in handy as a right back or as entertainment during the half-time interval (Carroll can do a sing and dance or something to liven up the crowd after such an appalling first half).
Bad times at PR, Bad Times. Bring on Rochdale!

2 things RoyKeaneisaGod

1) Aaron Lee-Barrat is 27 next month. If he isn't ready now he never will be.

2) You must regret picking that username :-P

Roy probably has ideas of playing him up front OR anywhere in the back four - and you all think I'm joking !!!
