Dundee United's Goodwillie Linked
Dundee United's Goodwillie Linked
Sunday, 3rd Apr 2011 10:15

Town have been linked with a summer move for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie. Earlier in the week, Blues boss Paul Jewell confirmed that the club have been keeping an eye on the Tangerines with winger Craig Conway previously claimed to be the subject of his interest.

Goodwillie, 22, was born in Stirling and joined his current club as a 14-year-old, coming through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2005. A half-season loan at Division Two Raith Rovers followed starting in December 2009, during which time the 5ft 9n tall frontman netted six goals in 15 starts and one sub appearance.

For Dundee United, Goodwillie, who has won one full Scotland cap having previously played at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels, has scored 36 goals in 74 starts and 51 games from the bench.

The striker, who recently signed a one-year extension to his Dundee United contract, tying him to the SPL side until 2013, has scored 16 times this season, including the winner in yesterday's 3-2 win at Rangers.

In January, Goodwillie was charged with raping a woman at a New Year’s house party in West Lothian and is due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court at a later date.

Think it would be prudent to hold off signing a player in his situation until after the court case... (just in case he's more Badwillie than Goodwillie)

Would be hard to avoid making a comment about the court case with a name like that! Anyway... I shan't!

He is very good on FIFA, and I always make an effort to sign him. In reality, he is one of the most promising young players in Scotland. Hope we get him!

Give us all a bit more information about Mr Goodwillie please. Is he a fox in the box type player we so desperately need or more of an out & out centre foward? All i know about him is his amusing name so some feedback will be appreciated.

We are not the only team linked with this lad, sounds a great player but seriously a naughty boy. Arrested at least once a year in the last three years according to this report http://www.blackpool.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=521495

Is this the type of character we need?

Let's just buy up the whole Dundee team and then auction off the ones we don't need. After all, could WE beat Rangers at the moment? I doubt it!

For those of you doubting the Football Manager scouting system, they are very well known for spotting potential superstars before anyone else even knew about them. Cristiano Ronaldo immediately springs to mind for me...

Of course they don't get everything right, but I would certainly use it as a base for finding players before scouting them myself if I were a manager.

looks a really really good, quick striker.. would be a great partner for Connor, with Wickham winning the flicks and he certainly knows where the goal is!

Come to Suffolk, calm down...and then enjoy life...get John Wark to put you straight on what is required for a Scottish player to be a star in these parts?

Great name, sounds like he has the playing potential. Of course I don't think he's of any value until certain legal issues are resolved so it's a 'watch this space' issue.

GoodWillie, pah. We dont want him, we want GreatWillie. I'd also expect him to 'score' regularly with a name like that. Would increase crowd attendance as I bet he's a big hit with the ladies too.

Cox + Goodwillie, I love it!!

Better than Marlon King and Goodwillie!
Wives, partners & any objects of any value would have to be banned from AGM and socials.

I'd possibly say coming to Ipswich may take him away from the bad influences he 'may' have up there.

Give him a chance.

Great signing for you - sad to see him go (if he does) although he brought a bit of a cloud to the club at the start of the year, hasn't affected his playing ability much though. Re the comment re Scottish Players, very unfair. Charlie Adam, Darren Fletcher, Alan Hutton, Robert Snodgrass....I could go on and on and on. Although, don't see many English stars making it in the bright lights of the SPL! haha!
