Ever Dreamed of Playing for Town?
Ever Dreamed of Playing for Town?

For the majority of us, Paul Jewell will overlook our talents and playing for Town will remain just a dream. But there is an alternative. Punch Drunk FC has been established since 1998, playing league matches and entering tournaments in the IFA.

The 2010/11 season has been PDFC’s most active since its formation, becoming the first team in the UK to complete the maximum 20 league matches, and in doing so travelling the country playing the fans’ teams from clubs such as Preston, Leicester, Hull and Barnsley.

PDFC has always put the major emphasis on being a social side, with an importance placed on giving anyone who wants to play football in a Town shirt the opportunity to do so, and then have a couple of beers afterwards. Weekends in far-flung destinations often combine playing for PDFC, watching ITFC in the afternoon and hitting the drinking holes in the evening.

Playing for PDFC is not a commitment. While some players have played in all 20 matches, others who can only commit to the occasional match are welcomed just as much. As matches are played all over the country, your own location isn’t an issue. It is positive for us to have players based outside of Suffolk.

With the major annual tournament in Leeds on the horizon, on the weekend of 22-24 July, PDFC thought this would be an ideal time to try and bring new players on board, especially as we take sides for the veterans competition in addition to the main tournament, so age is not a boundary to getting involved.

If you are interested in getting involved, then email PDFC at punchdrunkfc@gmail.com for details or to have any query answered.

The Leeds Worldnet Tournament is a of a excellent Standard. I played for a Queen Of The South Supporters XI and scraped through the group stages but the knockout rounds are very competitive and a few "old Boys" turn out for their clubs. Quality Weekend - Watch out for the Scottish teams though...

If it's a decent standard i'll definitely throw my footballing credentials into the mix for possible inclusion. Cheers for posting this Phil, this is right up my alley. In need of a decent run out and wearing a Town shirt would make it all the more sweeter!!

If the standard is high - where would this put 'average' players? - would they still get a decent game or only 5 minutes at the end? Can any one/Phil let me know? Cheers

While the standard may be high in some teams, in many it is very average too. Our side is more about enjoying matches, so don't be put off !!!

I am really keen to get involved with this. I play Saturdays and Sundays at present but would definately miss a few games to come and pull on a town shirt!

Sorry, Please don't take my analysis as gospel - I just thought that the standard was really good with some really really promising youngsters playing for their supporters teams. It'll be rare that teams turning up will be brushed 5-0/6-0 but it will be competitive!

If Selected, I'll be there representing Ipswich!

I'm guessing that "Weekends in far-flung destinations" doesn't include New Zealand

I played in the FootballAid organised match in 2001....fantastic experience particulaly after that great season....can still remember how much more tiring the pitch appeared to be than all those bumpy park pitches i had played on . Iwould recommend anyone who gets the oppotunity should grab it with both hands. incidentally Matt Holland met both teams before that game aswell. Our team was managed by Brian Klug, if anyone has any pictures of the team lineups for that game I would love to see them as there was some taken but I was never sent details of how to get them. Glad everyone enjoyed it.

I would definitely encourage everyone to get involved with this. I met the guys last year and made my debut at WorldNet 2010 following getting to know a few lads at the Portman Cup. A top bunch and we have a cracking laugh everywhere we go. I played 10 or so more games for PDFC this season up & down the country and had some memorable weekends away with the lads and have made some truely great friends. Typically involves a morning match in the Blues shirt, then going to watch & chees the Tractor Boys on followed by some evening beers & most importantly a good laugh.

Standard varies team to team & is always competitive - especially at WorldNet. Hope to see soe of you along soon
