Jewell Set to Meet Player
Jewell Set to Meet Player
Thursday, 26th May 2011 16:33

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that he will meet with a prospective signing in the morning. The Blues manager is at today’s Marina Dalglish Appeal Golf Day at Royal Lytham back in his native North-West.

Jewell was one of a number of Championship bosses at the event all in a similar position: “We’re all having a game of golf today and when we get off the golf course there will be 20 missed calls as we’re all trying to do deals.

“Straight after this I’m driving down to Ipswich to meet a player in the morning, so it never stops.

“We’re all looking for players, probably all looking for the same players, to be honest. A manager’s job never stops just because the football stops.”

Elsewhere, former Blue Liam Trotter, who joined Millwall after rejecting a new contract with Town last summer, is reportedly interesting Wigan, Norwich and Nottingham Forest.

Trotter's impressive performances for the Lions this season saw him sign an extended contract until 2014 in January.

Good news, as long as it's not Dyer who has played only around 33 games in 4 years. Would simply be a terrible signing. Still just my opinion, clearly most on here disagree!

Hopefully we will be celebrating a signing by the weekend - yet Clegg may be involved ....

We all have so many players we want or don't want. What I would point out though, is don't knock players who have made a name for themselves in the lower leagues: Mariner, Holland, Stewart, Walters. 4 of our best players methinks.

I personally think it is Dyer as has just been released this week and Jewell will want to secure him before anyone else

I personally will be surprised if it is anyone other than Dyer...but its pleasing to see we have at least attracted someone to come to look around the club!

the best part of this story is that paul is back from his short break so deals can start to happen.
dyer would be good on a play as you play deal to prove fitness, but having dyer may help in signing others (as he has real quality when fit). i have a feeling before may is out we will have 2 players in through ghe door.

None of us have really got a clue. The speculation this year has been more frantic than in any previous year. It isn't even June yet! I'm happy to wait and see what happens. This is problem with you young 'uns - instant gratification!!!!!

If it is Dyer then i think he would be a great captain. He is experienced and has real passion for the club.

I see everybody joking around and I completely understand that. We hear a lot of rumours and talks from PJ and Clegg that we have "irons in the fire" and we are meeting players but nothing happens in reality. I would just suggest PJ to stop giving this kind of half info until he has something real to report. Otherwise he sounds like the Sun - spreading rumours around. And don't worry Paul! We know you are busy during the summer we are not kids. Only busy is not enough - busy with results will be better! Good luck through the summer though! You will need it!

Sorry but I'm with jas0999 on this one and think signing Dyer would not be a good move. His injuries over four or more years must have taken their toll and I just can't see him playing enough to make a worthwhile contribution.

If it should be a nailed-on signing with PJ making such a positive statement, I am inclined to think it is more likely to be someone untested from the much lower reaches of the footballing pyramid (not that would necessarily be a bad signing). I just can't see muppet Clegg allowing a "big" signing to be such an easy formality!

He has come out and said it's about playing and not the money so a pay as you play deal would be not too much of a risk.
It should encourage other players to sign for us and bring out the best of the players already at Ipswich.

He is one of the best players Town have ever produced and if he can get back anywhere near his old fitness, just like Jimmy Bullard last season, we would have a player who can dominate the team on and off the pitch.

I to would like Ipswich to make some signings soon, living in Australia the only news is via web sites like TWTD (who do a great job) so at the moment it's like water torture waiting for news on new players.
But
there are so many players looking for new clubs, in and out of contract, and they all seem to be holding back for the best deal/club. I don't think much will happen for a couple of weeks or so. It may take a couple of moves in the premiership to get the ball rolling and then it will filter down into our league.

Jewel was misheard, he in fact said "I'm going to talk to a player about my clubs", don't get too excited until we hear that someone has actually signed

We Don't know who it is & Let's not forget after this monday there be more signings because of the play off final JimmyBullard Is that the real you??? We will get players in just not yet we need 1 teams to sign a player no matter what league it's in to get the ball rolling and other team will follow, So Just be patient.

Is it Vemund Brekkë-Skard?
Seriously though, Ryan Lowe maybe, if he's staying up that way?

Please not Dyer, it would be a total waste of cash. Did he set the world alight when he was here on loan? But it probably will be as it'll be easy - but hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised...

Hi everyone i dont post on here very often but i think the lad PJ is meeting is a player from Brantham Athletic hes a striker called Ollie Mann, I used to play for Yarmouth Town in the Ridgeons League First Division and i also know a few lads who play in the league and one of the boys said that Ollie is having a interview with Ipswich Town soon, I could be wrong but i know the lad doesnt have a agent so thats why he is having a interview. If it is him he has scored a lot of goals over the past two seasons and although its a different league all together but Charlie Austin and Jermaine Beckford started in that league so who knows he might be worth a punt and im sure he wont cost hardly anything!! Just what ive heard.
