Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Thursday, 23rd Jun 2011 11:42

Town boss Paul Jewell says there will definitely be further additions to his squad before the season gets under way on Saturday 6th August at Bristol City. The Blues manager has already brought in strikers Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington and defender Ivar Ingimarsson this summer.

Jewell says he is confident that more signings will follow: "I want to let the supporters know that we have a lot of business to do yet.

"I've probably been off the phone about 10 minutes since last season ended. I've been here, there and everywhere talking to players and agents, but I'm experienced enough to know that getting players in always takes time.

"The fans probably want to see us signing five, six, seven players, and we are looking at doing that, but as I said, we have to be patient.

"There will definitely be more players at this football club for August 6th. No question about that. Ideally I'd like to have everyone on board by the time we return to pre-season training at the start of July, but in reality that never happens.

"There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and I'm confident we can get in the players we need to give this club a better chance of reaching the Premier League.

"We could sign 10 players tomorrow, but it's getting the right players that counts. It's quality not quantity."

Meanwhile, Town have confirmed that the home first round Carling Cup tie against Northampton will be played on Tuesday 9th August with a 7.45pm kick-off as expected.

So refreshing to read/hear PJs comments - you can feel he is a real footballing person with a sound knowledge of what the fans want. He gives the fans confidence let alone the players!

Whoppit - Chopra is pretty much as good as we will get, I was certainly pleased with that signing. Ingamarson very solid and a leader, Ellington a low cost gamble who has done it before at thie level.

Maybe stop waiting for Messi to arrive.

Why no move for Kevin Phillips?? No baggage. Quality striker. Far better than Chopra or Ellington who have not set the world alight for several years now.

It might just be me but is anyone else not that worried if we wait for a little while, while we get these players in?
Last year was different but this feels like there is actually something happening so for me i'm quite happy to wait for those right players to come along as i feel confident in what PJ is saying...

Last year it just felt like Mr Kean was just saying what the fans wanted to hear.

I take my hat of to Paul as when he got appointed i was a little worried that he wasn't the man for us and that it was a bad step for us.but i am quite happy to say he has proved me wrong and also SC has made me change my opinion as well.

Just proves it might not have been SC holding up the 'So called targets' last year as so many were thinking. (Humble Pie comes to mind)

So apologies PJ and SC, You have and are continuing to impress and i feel very confidant of the players you have signed and very much looking forward to the new season and the new faces you are trying to bring in.....

I really feel that in Paul Jewell we have appointed the best manager we could have got. He really is doing the business and putting in the work himself to get deals done. To sign Chopra, Ellington and Ingimarsson and have only spent £1.5M in fees is very impressive; that is cheaper than the fee for Priskin alone! I think we can look forward to more shrewd purchases who will improve the team and bring value for money.

st ledger! nsomeone on here mentionned ambrose! i think thats an awesome call if we cant get bullard!
i know ambrose didnt have the best of loan spells when he was here but that could of been down to the manager and atmosphere around the club!
PJ get in ambrose hes awesome set up goals and scores from long range and free kicks. younger version of bullard
premiership qaulity

Whoppit, you're not impressed by Chopra, but you'd take Phillips? How about seeing if Naill Quinn wants a game as well?

Phillips used to be a goal machine, however, he hasn't played a full 90 minutes in about 3 years. Birmingham have only used him as an impact sub - we can't spend a season defending for 80 mins in the hope that Kev will score in the last 10!

You might want to change that name of yours from Whoppit to Muppit! lol

I too think that PJ is the right man for the job. He has a firm direction and a great sense of humour, just like Joe Royle. I remember when Mr.Royle took over the reigns some fans were disgruntled but in the end he ensured we played good football and with no money he was a miracle worker. Paul Jewell has some dosh and the brains so let us hope he can deliver the goods. Come on you blues!
