Doncaster: No New Coppinger Bid
Doncaster: No New Coppinger Bid
Saturday, 25th Jun 2011 14:24

Doncaster Rovers are reported to have denied receiving a second bid from Town for midfielder James Coppinger. A report in South Yorkshire yesterday claimed that an increased Blues offer of £400,000 had been turned down, a previous bid of £300,000 having been rebuffed last month.

According to the Sheffield Star, a Doncaster spokesman has said that no new bid has been received.

Very interesting. But not as interesting as the next couple of weeks are likely to be. PJ certainly seemed confident of signing several new faces BEFORE the start of the season. I wonder if he will pull a great signing out of the bag?

I just wonder, with the season getting closer, PJ is waiting for prospective players [ and their clubs ] to start to panic into deals [ perhaps slightly more in our favour ] i.e. the story above.

I would have thought if we'd upped the bid it would be more than a 100k increase.

Why do they bother being linked to thirty something journeyman!I would rather see young hungry players!people like koumas, who did jack at cardiff last season!,kilkenny, before bristol signed him are and were a total waste of time and money, give me green and cresswell anytime! In pj we trust(hopefully)

I have no worries about brining in the likes of Ellington, Ingimarsson and potentially Koumas as they are free transfers, but I am less sure about paying £400K for a 30-year-old. He would have no resale value so it would be dead money, a bit like when we signed Edwards, Scotland etc. Better to invest in younger players whose value will hopefully increase.

Spot on Mark, a club like ours has to buy players that will appreciate in value and augment them with cheap/free older players.

Mark - You are right about the sell on value but I'm sure that should not be considered too much, if he comes in and contributes to make us successful he will more than cover his cost, I think we will hardly recognise the team this year and with a good mix of youth, experience, pace and graft we have as much chance as anybody this year.

As most teams start their pre season training at the begining of July Pj will be waiting for the players to come off their holiday

Koumas and Coppinger would be good replacements for Bullard and Norris

if we got them plus a St Ledger and Treacy would be happy and feel the mid table spot would look more like a play off place

Feel we need to keep Wickham as he might be the differance this year

Like PJ has said there is nothing wrong with experienced and he wouldn't have achieved promotion without it.

Clegg's fault.

There's something wrong withour transfer policy. We haven't bought one player that has any increased resale value.

I think we definitely need to keep wickham. With 9 goals since Paul jewell took over, he'll surely break that 20 goal barrier if kept. We need to concentrate on keeping him rather than looking towards to loan strikers

Wickham, Walters are 2 that have/will made us a tidy profit.

ITFC are not skint. When they are they will buy lower league players and younger players and develope them to be worth more more that keeps the club afloat, like Crewe.
