Town Again Linked With St Ledger
Town Again Linked With St Ledger
Monday, 27th Jun 2011 13:26

Town are set to make Preston North End an improved offer for central defender Sean St Ledger, according to a report in Ireland. The Blues have been chasing the 26-year-old since January with an additional centre-half still very much required, despite the recruitment of former Reading man Ivar Ingimarsson on a one-year deal.

While manager Paul Jewell confirmed that an offer had been made in January, the Blues boss said a fortnight ago that only an enquiry had at that point been made during this window.

At the end of last week, Bournemouth centre-half Jason Pearce, who was understood to be seen as an alternative to St Ledger, rejoined his former club Portsmouth. On Friday, Leicester were claimed to have made a £750,000 offer for St Ledger.

Meanwhile, a Twitter account purporting to be Tranmere defender Aaron Cresswell appears to confirm weekend reports that the 21-year-old Town target is on his way to West Brom. Sources in the North-West had previously strongly linked the Blues with the out-of-contract left-back.

Ex-Town defender Hermann Hreidarsson is yet to sign his new contract at Portsmouth, along with striker David Nugent, who is expected to join Leicester on his return from holiday, the Blues having been reported to have shown interest in the one-time England man earlier in the summer.

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns, who is also now claimed to have been a Town target, has signed for the Foxes. Rangers, Celtic, Hull City, Bolton and Southampton had all previously been mentioned as potential destinations for the ex-Colchester man.

Shame that we didn't maange to sign Dann's - it looks like Leicester will be the team to beat next season; Nugent, Danns and no doubt lots of other signings.

Hopefully PJ has a wide range of targets. St. Ledger would be a decent signing - but Pearce would have been better IMO.

Yes please, one of the best CB's at championship level. He and Delaney would be excellent together, and HE CAN PLAY AT RIGHT BACK.

St Ledger would be a good buy, especially if we don't get a left back and Delaney is needed to fill in there for some matches. Shame about Danns going to Leicester. I was at the Ipswich v C Palace match near the end of season and even though we won the match he was by far the best player on the pitch! Would have made a good replacement for Norris.

Appears any chance of getting Shelvey from Liverpool on loan are out of the window, with an agreement in place with Blackpool for Charlie Adam 8m + Shelvey for 1yr loan accordingy to Sky Sports.

St Ledger will probably end up at Leicester. It appears they are trying to do a Chelsea and buy the title.
Sky Sports now stating that Craig Mckail Smith signing for them!

if PJ wants him enough I'm sure the Board will do their best, just not sure if they'll get him. I hope so, just think there may be too much competition for his signature.

Would be a fine signing for our club if we can persuade him to sign. Go and get him Mr Jewell.

Well saw him sveral times for Posh and he was pretty ordinary, everyone else is going to Leicester so expect he will go there as well, they can sign players when theur manager is out of the country, we need to get our finger out.

We need at least 2 more defenders. A full back and cb. St ledger would covef both but i feel pne will be holding out for more than we want to pay considering they had a £4m fee agree with boro only 18 months ago. Good if we can get him though. Wouldnt say no to the herminator on a 12 month deal.

Boro didn't want this guy. I can't understand why we do. Made a few too many errors for Preston last season which condemned them to the drop.
Can't understand why St Ledger would want to come to Town next season. Another season facing relegation? Surely he would want to go to Leicester/ Coventry etc....

Hreidarsson is out of contract in October.
Maybe Ingimarsson could persuade him to come back to Town?
