Cropper Signs Deal
Cropper Signs Deal
Friday, 15th Jul 2011 16:34

Academy keeper Cody Cropper has confirmed that he has signed his one-year professional contract. Earlier today midfielder Cormac Burke revealed that he’d put pen to paper on his first senior deal.

Cropper tweeted: “Signed my pro contract today with [Cormac Burke]! Absolutely buzzin’! Can't wait for this season!”

US U20 international Cropper and Northern Irish U19 international midfielder Burke will be pros this season while they finish their scholarships as they are a year older than other second years.

Meanwhile, new left-back Aaron Cresswell says he's getting used to life with the Blues after his move from Tranmere: “I’ve been hanging with the younger lads and they can’t stop taking the mickey out of my Scouse accent!

“They’re a great bunch of lads who have made it really easy to settle in.”

Elsewhere, former Blue Ian Westlake has joined NASL side Montreal Impact until the end of the season after a trial.

Ex-academy striker Alan Connell has signed for Swindon Town from Grimsby.

Cropper - good news. He sounds highly rated and could perhaps be a good number three goalkeeper for us. Now we just need to sell Fulop and bring in a new number one!

Westlake - what went wrong? A good performer for us as a young player, yet has failed to make 100 league appearances after leaving us in 2006, playing for the likes of Cheltenham, Oldham and Wycombe.

I think Cropper will do well.

Westlake was superb for us! Can't remember exactly when he left and whether it was really justified letting him go, anyone?

I could be wrong, but at the time I remember hearing stories that Westlake was sold as Jim thought that he was a bad influence on the then younger players.

But the NASL -not even the MSL -is a real come down.

I can't imagine Westlake was shipped out as a bad influence, met him a few times and was a bit cocky but a decent bloke.

I think it is more to do with fact we got offered money and Dan Harding for him, and we wanted DH as were short of a LB - and money!!

This is good news on Cody and good luck to him whatever the season ahead holds for him.

Hopefully there's a big future ahead for him at ITFC and what with us not taking part in what was the less than competitive reserve league perhaps he could do worse than going out on loan to get some competitive league experience under his belt.

Cody Cropper - that name is definately officer material. Glad for you that you've signed your first pro contract with a great club like Ipswich Town, now do us proud and strive to be our number one.

IMO it can't really be any harm to make him the number 2 keeper already. i believe ALB isn't really good enough for us after the Swansea and Norwich thrashings and Cropper i presume would be on much cheaper wages than him too.

all the same maybe being sent out on loan would be more beneficial to him as it is only in case of injury he would be getting a starting place here, especially in his first professional season.

One last point, perhaps rather assuming but the Americans are generally very good at producing goalkeepers (Brad Freidel, Kasey Keller, Tim Howard etc.) and to be selected for u20's proves that he has real talent.
