Murphy Signs for QPR
Murphy Signs for QPR
Wednesday, 10th Aug 2011 10:38

Former Blues keeper Brian Murphy has signed his two-year deal with QPR, having been on trial with the newly-promoted Premier League side throughout pre-season. TWTD was first to report Rangers’ interest in the 28-year-old back in May after he turned down Town’s offer of a new one-year contract on reduced terms.

QPR manager Neil Warnock said: "I am delighted. You need three senior keepers for the Premier League and we've got that now.

"Brian has had a super couple of weeks with us and was instrumental in us winning [a pre-season trophy] in Italy.

"He is a very capable understudy to Paddy Kenny, so him and Radek Cerny will offer great competition for the coming season.”

Murphy added: "It is great to be here. I am really looking forward to the new season and working with the goalkeepers.

"Since I have been here I have enjoyed it, and I think I have done OK. The manager and the coaching staff seem pleased, so I am just delighted to have my future sorted out.

"I am here to work hard, and anything extra will be a bonus. I want to be in that 18-man squad every week, but I know every player here wants the same thing.

"It is going to be a massive season for the club and one that I am looking forward to being a part of."

Good luck to the lad and good news for Ireland as well, another keeper in the top league in the land!

would much prefer him as number 2 to ALB, hey ho.

It was probably a mistake to give Lee-Barrett a new contract, cheap though I hope his wages are. Lee-Barrett is only considered a number three though and I think a new number two will be coming in. Hopefully Cropper will push on to push Lee-Barrett down to number four!

Mark i wish he would push him out of the door, if i never see him in a town shirt again it will be too soon. He was making mistake after mistake, not controlling the back four then shouting at them as if it was there fault!!!

I thought he had already signed for them. Given that Fulop has left I wouldn't have said no to offering him a new contract back with us on the terms he was after. Mildly concerned about the lack of GK cover as I can't imagine Stockdale will spend the whole season with us - surely he'll get a recall at some point?!

Bluelady speaks sense.... ALB should not be a professional goalkeeper....there are many better than him playing in the local leagues (i even include the SIL in this) every Saturday afternoon.

Cheers for the bigup Matteo -
I started out playing in the SIL - Used to play in Goal for Coplestonians!

(I know I am going to get a barrage of abuse now but... )
I kinda feel sorry for ALB and JP to be honest, knowing that you may never get to play any kinda first team game would be disheartening... If you know that (in the eyes of the manager) you are not considered good enough - would you really perform to the best that you can??

JP isnt a defender either -

You only need players who want to be here. ALB is not good enough to challenge for 1st team start. I expect Murphy is on a lot more per week on the bench at QPR

Yes I guess it was down to money, Murphy is not getting any younger and I guess he would rather the wages even if he is number 2 or 3 at QPR then first team football in the championship.

So much better than Aaron Lee-'drop it' Barrett or flappy Fullop should of kept him although Stockdale is alot better though

I fear it was an abysmal decision to let him go - how on earth PJ can justify offering Murphy reduced terms and then gave ALB a 2-year deal is beyond me. It defies belief. After also letting Fulop leave for nothing and with Stockdale able to be recalled at the drop of a hat, I bet PJ is actually regetting this decision. Must sign another Keeper urgently. ALB is sadly a liability.
