No Further Blackpool Bid on Quiet Last Day
No Further Blackpool Bid on Quiet Last Day
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2011 19:26

Blackpool’s anticipated further attempts to sign Town striker Jason Scotland don’t appear to have materialised and no further moves in or out are expected before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening. Yesterday, TWTD revealed that the Blues had turned down a £350,000 offer from the Tangerines for the Trinidad and Tobago international.

The Seasiders instead turned their attention to Sheffield United frontman Daniel Bogdanovic, who has completed a move to Bloomfield Road this evening and will presumably make his debut for his new club when Town visit Lancashire a week on Saturday.

Even if the Blues had agreed a fee with Blackpool, Scotland has said he very much wants to remain with Town to fight for a starting role in Paul Jewell's side: “I’ve worked very hard in pre-season, and I don’t want to leave here. I love this place, the club and the people.”

The 32-year-old is currently back in the Caribbean having been invited to be a guest at Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Bermuda in Port of Spain along with the rest of the Trinidad and Tobago squad which played in the 2006 finals in Germany.

Coventry and Birmingham watched Scotland in action during the 2-1 victory over Leeds on Saturday, while Middlesbrough have also been linked.

The final day of the transfer window has passed unusually quietly at Portman Road with Jamie Griffiths’s one-month loan move to Plymouth the only completed business.

Town, who have already signed 11 players this summer, will now look at utilising the loan provision open to them in a week’s time with Stoke’s Wales international defender Danny Collins one of the three players manager Paul Jewell is hoping to add to his squad.

Elsewhere, Leeds defender Aidy White has lost his appeal against the red card he received during his side’s defeat to the Blues at the weekend.

Have to love Anton 'i want to stay and fight for my place' Ferdinand. More like Anton 'no chance am i going to the Championship' Ferdinand.

I'd rather Collins or Ibanez anyway.

1. Happy enough to see Scotland staying with us ... I also think he still has something to offer ... and certainly he is saying the right things.

2. I am also bitterly disaappointed at the lack of activity today and the general lack of ability to attract the right players to the club. I truly don't believe we will be fighting relegation this season - but mid table mediocrity is not much of a turn on either .... particularly when considering the price of our best seats cost more than those at Man United!!!

3. Only leaves me to ask: "What the hell is going on at our once proud club?" Personally, I am not convinced now that PJ is the man for the job after all. He may be better at man management then is predecessor, but tactically he is equally as lacking.

Ah well, onwards and upwards .... COYB

I've not been an ITFC fan for years on end, just a few and got a season ticket for the first time this season. I really love supporting town and when fans back players like Luca through long term injuries I am proud to be a supporter. But there is one thing I don't enjoy about being a fan, you constant moaning grumpy people who are always negative, never see good in anything that happens and use the phrase "here we go again" on a regular basis. You don't deserve to call yourselves supporters, you aren't supporting anyone.

pinewoodblue - this is very much a results based business, and in my opinion the prognosis for ITFC doesn't look promising, short, medium, or long term at this moment in time.
If we end up with a season like the previous umpteen , we will continue to lose support and that is no good to anyone - but it will happen for sure.
As other posters have pointed out, loan, and older players, are only ever a short term 'fix' generally speaking - and this is where we are at.
The issue that is annoying me more than anything is we DESPERATELY need a RB and another CB (and who would disagree) - because we are still playing square pegs in round holes - and it will not work.
Personally I would like to see younger, keen to progress, players coming to the Club as permanent signings - but what do we do ? - unload them wholesale, and show little sign of bringing others in (Cresswell exception).
Some people will accept anything, and keep 'coughing up' whatever is served up. I want to see the Club successful again - and BACK to it's former glory.
People who haven't witness the successful days at the Club, will always find the current plight easier to accept than those who have - I being one of the latter.

My opinion, and I guess a few others - now slag me off for it if you need to.

I wonder if we have had no-one in today because we have a Prem loan coming in next week. Most Premiership clubs have been sorting who they are getting in this week, they can think about loans out next week.

Welcome Blue CuppaTea and well said. Keep the faith - I think we will make the playoffs this season. You are right - there are a lot of professional moaners on this site -but they are having fun so indulge them. Of course they are right - they have all obviously been in the wrong job all their lives and should be managing Town. They are entitled to their opinions and you (and me) are equally entitled to think they are idiots.

Feed up of reading such negative comments. Jewell has signed proven quality this summer. Time will tell as we march up the league.

........ this Club will always be a 'soft touch' to Own and Manage - too many supporters willing to accept anything, and lack ambition.
Unique in that success doesn't matter - as long as a ball is kicked, at whatever level.

h32. Some fair points, having seen "Town" since 1967 myself, i know that it took a few years before Sir Bobby created a side capable of mere survival rather than the dizzy heights attained in later years, & this was in the days when it was a more even playingfield. My point is that in these moneyed times, it is much harder to achieve our past glories (impossible even) so maybe i just have a more realistic outlook on what is now possible, & can appreciate how difficult it is for Mr Jewell & his staff. However, i & many others on here continue to be positive & feel we as a team are heading in the right direction.

Thank you for your excellent comments pinewood...PJ has worked harder than any manager in recent history to get the right signings into itfc. The one's he HAS got so far have mostly been pretty incredible, given our recent history, and getting Bullard back on a permanent was a master-stroke, especially with so much interest from QPR and Wolves. Defence has been a problem for a long time, ever since De Vos left (maybe even going back to Mowbray). However, even though it may only be for this year, Sonko is a great signing, Ingarmarson is class if he can stay fit, and Chopra, Jet and Andrews will get you goals. This league is the hardest its been for years - West Ham and Leicester spending silly money - but we have a chance with PJ in charge, and with a couple more coming in on loan once Prem teams have decided on their 25 players for the season, things are looking up.

Im happy with jewells signings, Jet has much to improve, to be fair, but ya can't knock him for bringing in Chops(quality touch & great finisher),Bullard(by far the best midfield brain in the championship),Sonko(knows exactly when to John Smiths, the ball into the back row of the stands), Cresswell ( nice little poach, whom i didn't know too much about, at left back), & then Bowyer( gets stuck in,when he needs to, which is what we've been crying out for, for donkeys seasons) & then Stockdale,Murphy & Andrews on loan !!!! Just need to shift on, a couple of Keano's signings if ya catch my drift .....Some of you lot on here ain't got a scooby doo! Come on you Blues.

Window closed - glad we kept hold of Scotland!

I see Pablo Ibanez went to Birmingham (to replace Scott Dann). Oh well, hopefully will get Collins on loan.

At last we have some decent forwards plus creativity in the mid-field and a good goalie (England #2). With a couple more defenders we should have a decent team.
The challenge will be to get it all synchronised....especially getting it tight at the back and closing down in the mid field while providing some good service to Chops, Murphy and Scotland.
It's coming together and we have lots to look forward to. Now for the supporters to get behind the management and the team and do our bit.

I cannot understand some of the moaning that goes on here. Think about our first eleven.

Stockdale
Edwards, Ingimarsson, Collins (if not Sonko), Cresswell
Emmanuel-Thomas, Bowyer, Bullard, Andrews, Murphy
Chopra

With the addition of a right back and assuming Collins does come in, it is a side with quality and flair, a solid defence and an England goalkeeper.

Give itfc time to blend. Fairly simple, our quality out shines several other teams. Enough said.

Can't see how we can get anything out of this season now. Simply not strong enough at the back.

jas0999 and h32- you took the words right out of my mouth. Absolute sham. Our defence is going to get cut to pieces between now and Christmas. Delaney and Edwards aren't up to the job and Sonko and Cresswell will end up too overworked. We will be lucky to get 5 games out of Ingimarrson.
Relegation battle ahead. Anyone who thinks anything different is deluded.

Paul Jewell is rebuilding the team in the correct way, player by player. It takes time and effort to get the right players in.
We won't go up this season, but we'll have a good chance NEXT if we keep rebuilding the way we are. Keane caused a lot of damage,it will take time to fix.
Don't believe we will be relegated, but surprised if we make top half this season. Other teams are simply going to be too strong for us.
If we get the right loans now, the situation could change. Look how many players Arsenal brought in,loads of quality players there will now struggle for a game

no need for any negativity until the negative results start coming in. bottom 3? lets keep our fingers crossed and hope there are 3 teams weaker than us in this division

Whippet :- You'll feel better after a piece of toast and your first coffee of the morning. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I just don't share your opinion. In the end we all want the same thing, lets just look forward and get behind PJ and the players.

What happy lives some of our supporters lead, ten signings more been promised to shore up the defence when loan window opens yet still we are relegated after a handful of games, I will defer comment on how well the team will do until I've seen them play a good few games, that way I keep smiling and am able to cheer my team on, doom and gloom people, smile it doesn't cost you anything.......

Only time will tell if Jewells signings or his management are good ,but i for one am more confident than at this stage last year with the signings and experience we have signed ,compared to our young players who have hunger and were outplayed as they were in the cup this year .
How anyone can predict that we will have such a bad season is beyond me ,they must make a fortune at the bookies with their amazing foresight .
I for one enjoy going to watch the Town play and will continue to do so ,we have 6 points it took Keane 12 games to get to that stage in his first full season after his summer of signings so progress has been made
