No Further Blackpool Bid on Quiet Last Day
No Further Blackpool Bid on Quiet Last Day
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2011 19:26

Blackpool’s anticipated further attempts to sign Town striker Jason Scotland don’t appear to have materialised and no further moves in or out are expected before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening. Yesterday, TWTD revealed that the Blues had turned down a £350,000 offer from the Tangerines for the Trinidad and Tobago international.

The Seasiders instead turned their attention to Sheffield United frontman Daniel Bogdanovic, who has completed a move to Bloomfield Road this evening and will presumably make his debut for his new club when Town visit Lancashire a week on Saturday.

Even if the Blues had agreed a fee with Blackpool, Scotland has said he very much wants to remain with Town to fight for a starting role in Paul Jewell's side: “I’ve worked very hard in pre-season, and I don’t want to leave here. I love this place, the club and the people.”

The 32-year-old is currently back in the Caribbean having been invited to be a guest at Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Bermuda in Port of Spain along with the rest of the Trinidad and Tobago squad which played in the 2006 finals in Germany.

Coventry and Birmingham watched Scotland in action during the 2-1 victory over Leeds on Saturday, while Middlesbrough have also been linked.

The final day of the transfer window has passed unusually quietly at Portman Road with Jamie Griffiths’s one-month loan move to Plymouth the only completed business.

Town, who have already signed 11 players this summer, will now look at utilising the loan provision open to them in a week’s time with Stoke’s Wales international defender Danny Collins one of the three players manager Paul Jewell is hoping to add to his squad.

Elsewhere, Leeds defender Aidy White has lost his appeal against the red card he received during his side’s defeat to the Blues at the weekend.

Guentchev - think you'll be seeing two signings come into that defence in the next week so where's your argument then?

Deluded?

Build from the back - I really hope we get at least RB/CB CB next week plus a keeper - if not then it will be a long season - Happy with other areas it is the defence

Shame we could not have offloaded leadbitter or priskin

Ipswich and PJ have shown no ambition and expose their approach in doing everything on the cheap. It's not who we want anymore, it's who''s free and doesn't have any options. Loans and frees.

The biggest factor in our approach to promotion now is LUCK. Can we be lucky this year? Not football knowledge just blind faith, luck and hoping it will all turn out all right.

Dont think we have a bad team assembled here, yes we could do with some more cover to deal with injurys or suspensions, but have made some good signings and have at least a couple of options for most areas... even if that does mean delany or leadbitter as plan b. Priskin? I think he is a player with a bit of potential to score some goals for us. Bags of pace, just needs to hit the target a bit more. Get his consistency up and he could cause problems for the defence of the other teams, and if they are busy watching runs form him, chops could probably start making more of an impact on the games.
Rekon this could make a half decent line up:
Stockdale
Peters Sonko Ingimarsson Creswell
Andrews
Emanuel-Thomas Martin
Bullard
Priskin Chopra
subs:lee barrett, bowyer, scotland, edwards, murphy

Can't see why the fuss about signing players on the last day of the window - apart from the hype and the desire to see your pet favourite players come in (or least favourite go out) before things are frozen until January. We did our last minute deals in the week before the Leeds game - a lot more useful than having them arrive yesterday.

And the people shouting about "free transfers, cast-offs that are obviously no good" are the same saying that certain of our existing players would be so much better with different management or a decent run in the team. If you reckon it works for the latter, why shouldn't it work for the former? Size of fee paid is no guarantee of player quality or performance (see: Priskin), just how highly desired they are by the purchasor.

For those lusting after "young, hungry, lower-league or youth" players, are you prepared to wait three or four years for them to reach full potential, while Town struggles and possibly suffers relegation? Against the likes of Cresswell's fairly instant success can be set Tommy Smith and Jack Ainsley's recent struggles and the high regard in which Lee-Barrett seems to be held by the majority on here.

johnhazlebum:- I cant remember a single positive comment that you've made and your comments seem to be made more for shock value and effect than being thought out, rational and genuine oppinions. You, paulnstar (jewell out,YAWN)ect ect are boring the me to death, I'm on this site because 99.9% of it's contributors know what they are talking about and think their contributions through so positive or negative its worth reading but you others are just repetitive griping moaning and bloody repetitive. As for people worried about loan sighnings remember that our stand out performer (imo) Andrews is on loan and we would be a lot worse of without him.

And the fact for the last two seasons loan players have been player of the year .
It is nothing to do with building for the future it is about getting out of this league as with the majority of clubs who get promotion stay up because they sign new players when they get to the premiership

'A sham', 'we're heading for relegation' etc. Haha what a joke set of fans we have, you know its them that make the club look bad don't you. What embarrassing attempts at being dramatic!

Jas0999 does it not occur to you that in this modern world, business can be done long distance. Seeing your numerous comments saying the same thing; 'Clegg was on holiday when the Chopra signing was announced therefore did not take part it securing the deal whatsoever and deserves no credit' quite frankly makes me laugh! Jewell said himself when he went on holiday he was constantly on the phone, and even had to cut it short. Do you generally think Clegg he had nothing to do with the deal?

So we've established you don't like Clegg, or Jewell, or Evans? Get em all out?

P.s Would it make you happy if we paid Birmingham, Stoke, Reading, Watford and whoever else some cash just so we can pretend they weren't free transfers and that Clegg 'negotiated a fee' and isn't totally useless afterall. Then I suppose you wouldn't have to moan about them being 'freebies that no one else wanted' (because there were no other offers for Bowyer).

What a pathetic bunch of supporters we have at this club. No - wonder every over year we sake our managers... just pathetic.

Grow up and give PJ time to assemble his own squad that can challege our rivals.

Too many people are too quick to jump the gun!! Doesn't get you anywhere... I thought you would have learnt that by now...
