Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Friday, 16th Sep 2011 12:31

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that striker Tamás Priskin can leave Portman Road but says that can only happen if a club comes in for him. The 24-year-old, who was close to joining Leeds on loan last month, spoke out about his lack of opportunities at Portman Road while away with the Hungarian national squad last week.

Jewell said: “He can go, it’s not a problem that. But you have to be careful what you read about quotes, I’ve only just seen [the story] this morning and he said he’d like to go on loan.

“I had him in my office about three weeks ago and told him that Leeds wanted to take him on loan. He asked if he could think about it because he wanted to talk to ask his agent and his dog and his cat and by the time he’d thought about it Leeds had taken Andy Keogh from Wolves.

“On deadline day his agent called me and we went through the whole of the Championship asking if they’d take Tamás on loan and we’re still waiting for a reply. He can go, it’s just that he needs to go to someone who wants to take him.”

The Blues boss says he has no issue with the summer 2009 £1.7 million signing from Watford and will continue to consider him for selection: “He’s the one who wants to go. I spoke to Tamás in pre-season. I told him that he’s 6ft 1in tall, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s got all the attributes and it’s a big season for him and that he would get his opportunity.

“I see these guys in training every day. He hasn’t really impressed me in training enough to get on the bench.

“It’s not a problem, although I wish he’d just say it to me. I wish he’d just knock on my door and say it to me but I suppose when they go away on international duty things can [be like that]."

Jewell says he has no problem with the former QPR and Swansea loanee's approach to training or games but says he's just not shown him enough this season: “While he’s here he’ll always be considered, as long as his attitude’s fine and his attitude hasn’t been a problem. I just don’t think he’s done well enough in the matches.

“He played the other day — Ellington got a hat-trick, little Rooney [Ronan Murray] came on and got two goals. Football doesn’t owe him a living because he’s a Hungarian international.”

Priskin, who is yet to appear for the Town first team this season, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Pathetic Jewell, name me one manager who publicly criticises his players? Priskin may not be the best player in the world but it is your job as manager of ITFC to get the best out of him....by saying this you are giving up, which effectively says you do not know how to do your job. It also wipes any value off him which we might have got in January.

mpk1111, Jewell cant get anything out of him ,nor could Keane, nor did he set the world alight when out on loan !. He blows warm and cold, and only thing he is remembered for is his goal against Gunners, had that been against any championship team ,it would not get a mention .He is a waste of space, his agent would do better trying to get him a spot in a SpecSavers advert .

Priskin made the first move on this. There was a news report on Monday here saying that Priskin had commented to the Hungarian Press on how unhappy he was here. I would not blame Paul Jewell for reciprocating his comment.

I think that Priskin is more suited to a less physical and more technical league, like the Ukraine or Russia.

mpk1111 - give up on the hippy "lets give him a chance man" routine. He has to earn the chance to play for our club. Clearly Priskin is lazy in training, just as he is in some matches. Give me someone who wants to play for the club over someone with natural ability any day of the week. The fact that no Championship club came in for him when offered says it all. Jewell's homesty is refreshing

"He asked if he could think about it because he wanted to talk to ask his agent and his dog and his cat". This is just like his personality on the pitch. I may run for it... I'll think about it, oh too late.

Get rid of him. He's probably on too much money anyway.

Priskin's one great game was against Arsenal, on the telly and a cup semi final. Says it all really, in your everyday championship games he can't be bothered. In a big game he's up for it.

When the story about his press comments came out he should have been sacked, he is out of contract at the end of the season and clearly not willing to graft to get back in the team and nobody wants him elsewhere. All PJ is doing here is setting the record straight which he is right to do IMO since Priskin's fee and wages are already a write off. At least he's left the door open in case Priskin discovers some humility & hunger

Say it as it is PJ, liking the attitude, Priskin says he's not happy because he's not getting a look in, which is understandable, PJ says that's because you're sh*te son.
Hilarious stuff, modern day players are a bunch of overpayed woofters, nice to see that PJ's not putting up with any of it.

This is isn't about Priskin persee, just about Jewel's man management, which I think has a lot to be desired. Jewell is lowering himself to the players level by continually making snide remarks to the press (Martin, Carson, Priskin) I don't blame players for this as they usually have 5 brain cells to share amongst themselves, but you would expect a manager to be a bit more intelligent and rise above this.

Love it!!!! Well said PJ, I couldn't agree more.

This sort of response was always on the cards.

I have absolutely no belief in Jewel at the moment. For me Tamas is the only good assist player we have to partner Chopra at the club. To not even experiment with him in a real situation with Chopra is frankly baffling as have most of his team selections so far. Progress to date is there for all to see.
