Murphy a Doubt for Brighton Game
Murphy a Doubt for Brighton Game
Wednesday, 28th Sep 2011 16:34

Striker Daryl Murphy is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s home game against Brighton with the hamstring injury he suffered in the warm-up at West Ham last night. The Irishman was replaced on the bench by Nathan Ellington only minutes before the kick off at Upton Park.

Murphy said: "I felt a twinge in my hamstring and had to pull out. I could have made it a lot worse, so while it was disappointing, it was the best thing to do."

I'm happy to see what Ellington can do. Plus I think we have a similar option on the bench in JET anyway.

We all know that Murph can score goals at this level - he proved it last time he was here. But it is working out how to deploy him most effectively. Chopra and Scotland look so in tune with each other up front, and I think both will score a lot of goals as the season wears on. It is no use expecting Murph to come on and do exactly the same job as either of them, but there must be a way of getting him scoring the goals he scored last time he was at the club. I'm intrigued to see what Jewell has up his sleeve!

Not a huge loss on current form. JET and Ellington are more than useful coming off the bench. Thanks to some excellent signings by Jewell we are now in a position where this type of injury won't effect us. Up the Town!

We needed to bring an attacking player with aerial ability into the squad and I think Murphy would have partnered Chopra had it not been for the renewed form of Scotland. Add in Ellington, Emmanuel-Thomas and Priskin, and we can appreciate the number of striker options we now have. :-)

Ellington simply isn't good enough. I know PJ has fallen out with Priskin, but surely he would be a better option on the bench? Ellington has looked very poor albeit he has only played a few times ... but he even looked terrible in pre-season (worst player on the pitch at Cambridge). Murphy is decent cover, but not a great signing IMO.

Ellington hasnt had half the opportunity to prove himself that Priskin has had jas0999, Scotland was taking similar flac from some on here but he has improved a lot ,Priskin has blown it .

Someone told me Ellington had been on Ramadan - if so, that's got to have had some impact on his ability to train / play?!?
Apologies if this is complete rubbish!

Murphy was awful at Blackpool. He needs to up his game.

It's a total waste of time Murphy being here anyway : he was mediocre last time he was here, and with our enormous squad he just becomes another bench contender. Send him back.

Le Fondre or Hoskins both would have been excellent at Ipswich.Wittingham in January,RBack one of the big guns must have someone we can borrow

Murphy scored 6 in 18 last time here and many fans wanted us to sign him after that as a key summer signing, so getting him on loan has to be worth a go. He is strong and good in the air, and a decent hold up player.

Ellington has 119 goals in English league football and he scored a hat-trick for the reserves recently, so I'd say he is worth a place on the bench. Why write him off before he has had a chance of playing a few matches?!

Priskin isn't physically strong, isn't a worker, is poor in the air, has scored only 5 goals for us in two years and now doesn't even want to be here, why on earth put him on the bench?!

Ellington was Sharp for the few mins he played last night... in a squad full of confidence he will do a job off the bench, much better attitude than priskin

daley - you're right. A pointless signing with all the strikers with have. Surplus to requirements & unneccessary addition to the wage bill

Stupid comment quite frankly again from Jas0999. Ellington has as good as not played, 20 odd (?) minutes at P'boro when 7-1 down, and last night. Ridiculous to say he's 'simply not good enough'.

Jewell obviously sees the reason for having him around and lets face it, he knows more about it than we do. I would personally far rather have him available than not.

ahhh Jas0999, you have got to be kidding yourself.

Its a fact that Ellington has a proven track record in prems and champs, reports all around said he did well on tuesday (also did well at home when we were hammered by peterboro), and as said by one of the postee, in a team brimming with confidence, he is the just the impact sub we need.

and your preference is priskin?

Talking of JET, I think once he gets his act together, I truly believe he could be a real danger man. Either that or if he doesn't knuckle down and begins to believe in his own publicity, slide off into oblivian and that really would be a waste.

Murphy out for a couple of weeks is not ideal for him, but in an improving side, its a chance to see what Ellington can do. Wouldn't shock me to see Martin or Carson on the bench over JET either. Either way the game on Sat is going to be tasty. Good atmosphere and two teams on good form playing well. No time for moaning, we need to get behind the lads for a play off push!
