Boro's McManus Linked Again
Boro's McManus Linked Again
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2012 15:38

Town could make a late move for Middlesbrough centre-half Stephen McManus, according to reports in the North-East, although we understand no bid has yet been lodged. The 29-year-old turned down a loan move to the Blues in the summer of 2009 when a Celtic player and was linked with a switch to Portman Road earlier in the month.

Lanark-born McManus, who is seen more as a back-up than a first choice at Boro at present, came through the youth ranks at Celtic, making his senior debut in the 2003/04 season.

He made 204 starts and three sub appearances for the Bhoys, scoring 20 goals, and captained the side before joining Boro initially on loan in January 2010, signing on permanently the following summer for £1.5 million.

He has made 56 starts and five sub appearances for the Teessiders, scoring twice. With Scotland, 6ft 2in tall McManus has won 26 caps, scoring two goals.

The clock is running down and boy don't Evans, Jewell and Clegg know it, if true it smacks of desperation!

Come 11pm all this madness will be over.....................thank goodness!

This is a no brainer for me, been saying it for weeks. You pull this and tge Pompey deal off town management, the future is a great deal rosier. You don't, we're properly fooked!

I think McManus is a good player and adds something in attacking set pieces also would be ideal alongside Pearce ,but as normal we will end up with nothing more likely .
Upson and Bramble on loan and get Wright back from Palace as the centre backs look poor as they are constantly covering to weak defending full backs

It doesn't really matter if they are better or worse than what we already have as we only have smith, Delaney and sonko. All applications are welcome. Actually having said that. I would rather the youths than buy crud.

Yeh right, the operative word here is COULD, we could have done lots of things but have'nt actually done anything, Portman Road should be renamed, the BUPA Care Homes Stadium, run by the 3 stooges and the rest of the muppets.

Just like to see us sign a defender ... any defender (within reason, obviously) ... preferably in the next half hour before i set off to watch the match ... would be nice to be heading up the A12 with something to be optimistic about ... coz i'm not feeling too confident that we'll get the result we need on the pitch tonight!!

Could Russell Osman do a job for us? A lot of transfer activity being completed today by other clubs. Wonder why we have persisted all this time in trying to get the Portsmouth trio? And still apparently trying. Maybe there is still a deal to be done?
