Town Linked With Move for Derby Striker
Town Linked With Move for Derby Striker

Town are reported to have made a £500,000 offer for Derby County striker Steve Davies but with the Rams wanting a fee closer to £1 million. The 24-year-old was initially mentioned in connection with the Blues, as well as Leeds and Bristol City, last month.

Derby manager Nigel Clough recently revealed that Davies had been transfer-listed having turned down the offer of a new contract due to "a genuine family reason". Davies has a year remaining on his current deal, the Rams having taken up an option on his previous terms.

Blues boss Paul Jewell signed Davies from Tranmere when manager at Pride Park for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, in which time he has scored 23 goals, 12 of them during 2011/12.

Sam Baldock any day over Mr Davis but we won't get him for 500k

Perfect age, exactly the type of striker we need, and his goal record is a bonus. Baldock would be great option to have with pace and energy, but I'd rather see Davies come in given the choice.

Let's hope this report is valid and not more spew, and let's get the deal wrapped up!

I think we have to understand that filling the centre back and keeper positions will be our hardest task this summer. It is frustrating because we need reinforcements so badly, but for these I think we really do have to be patient. Still a long while to go.

Probably wont go down too well with most but I wouldn't mind seeing Jon Stead back here, given a run, alongside chopra. Just purely a personal opinion that I thought I'd put out there.

hollywoodginge, we (RK) should never have sold Stead in the first place, I think he'd be a good option alongside Chopra, or as an impact sub, he always seemed to have a better performance when coming off the bench.

Always liked Stead, though I wouldn't explore the possibility of taking him back.
