Chambers Returns to Nottingham
Chambers Returns to Nottingham
Wednesday, 4th Jul 2012 08:20

Town target Luke Chambers is understood to have returned home to Nottingham last night having spent much of yesterday at Portman Road with his move to the Blues believed to be close to breaking down. The 26-year-old is thought to be weighing up various alternative options with Leeds and a number of other clubs also said to be interested.

Chambers underwent a medical and took a tour of the ground and training facilities yesterday but talks which continued well into the evening were unable to be concluded.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has Chambers well up his list of summer targets and it would be a huge blow to see the former Northampton man, a free agent since his Forest contract expired at the weekend, move elsewhere.

In addition to weekend links with Leeds, whose takeover is on the verge of being agreed, Chambers has previously been mentioned in connection with West Brom, Wigan and Leicester City.

Brianamul.. Good post. I feel like we are going to be the Oakland A's of the league this season.

This is a joke! someone needs to go here... this is happening way way to often! how can a player have a medical and tour of the ground and still not sign!

The game has moved on, we haven't.

Seriously though, we may never know what type of wages LC is asking for. Would people rather we shell out stupid money (Counago anyone)?

Of course they would because it'll give them something else to moan about when he has a bad game!!

glad to see there are 1 or 2 people who can post sensible comments on here. unfortunately there are always those who have to put the blame with clegg or ne1 at itfc. hrom the report in the star actually talks were concluded, therefore terms were agreed, etc. so what else is clegg supposed to do, if the player asks for more time to make his decision? can hardly hold him prisoner till he agrees to sign(nice idea tho). to those claiming clegg buggers every deal up, look back to last season when he actually completed the signing of 14 players, so get nyour facts right 1st before criticising. but then, ur not really are you, just making him, a scapegoat for doing his job, according to the instructions hes given by the owner(his boss). bluelady, youve changed your tune. saying exactly what you slated h32 for msaying yesterday. talk about fickle fans. and lets remember, he hasnt turned us down yet, just considering his options which every player has the right to do. and at the end of the day, if he does, its luke chambers we're trying to sign, not lionel messi. be other targets as good, if not better than him to go for.

CB is a position which 100% needs change before next season, preferably before pre season. I'm sure his medical and all our facilities wowed Chambers but if he or his agent are after more wages that we are willing to offer, then I say let him go 2 some other mug of a team! Plenty of our dedicated top players are taking pay cuts because obviously they want to be at our club to play football and not for money! We need some quality players from lower league who are 100% focused on football, just like Aaron cresswell. There's still 6 weeks until the season starts and I trust in Jewell/Clegg to sort our CB issue. Obviously we want someone before or during pre season so they can gel with the team but as long as we get 1 or 2, I'm happy.

Spme people on here are ridiculous. How do we know Chambers didnt stroll in and demand 30k per week? We dont. Its stupid just saying 'Clegg Out' because we didnt sign a player we were linked with

If he is asking for stupid wages then I'm glad he has/or will walk away. Don't especially want to end up like Pompey.

Never mind clegg got his rowing buddy in so a pair of shot putters should see us to the playoffs !

Let's be reasonable here guys......the fella is obviously looking at his options and he would be a fool not to. By walking away from the ground without signing a contract it is clear that he is trying to squeeze a better offer out of ITFC, and that is exactly what any player on a bosman would do. If he signs he signs! If not so what!

Ipswich till I die!

Surely having a medical would suggest that terms had been agreed?

Think the club needs to make a statement on this. Let us fans know whats going on. If im correct in saying that pj & clegg were not present yesterday its not very professional imo. These guys should be present for face to face discussions.

Clegg Out!

Not really. Thats stupid.

We are after all just dealing with rumours at the moment but we need to get to the bottom of this. If he signs - then great. If not - we need facts!

Yes we seen this before but chambers may want to discuss it with his family. If he chooses not to sign then move on we should be signing players that want to wear the shirt not fill their wallets!!

I'm normally fairly articulate on this forum but...

F**k Off town!!! Clegg, Evans...
How on earth can you not have concluded the deal!? It's clearly down to cash!!
No centre back since McCauley, we get a proper leader in, give him a medical and then it comes down to the offer! F**k off!

Ipswich Town and Evans obviously work to a strict wage structure and understandably will not break it. We have to accept that Evans is not compared to the owners of Man City and be grateful we have him otherwise we would really be in a mess. As for Chambers it is all about money I'm afraid so we move on and perhaps go for the hungrier element in the lower divisions. I must admit am getting a bit concerned now though as we report back tomorrow and once again have no resemblance of a decent goalkeeper or defence. Looks like a season of struggle to me as our league is now undoubtedly becoming Premier 2.

Strange, normally terms are agreed before a medical takes place. Wonder if his agent is angling for a better deal or if someone has come in at the last minute to try and guzump us.

JESUS CHRIST!

I've lost all faith I might have had for the next season now..... ffs.

saffron must admit that was my thoughts too.... its normally the last thing that happens isnt it the medical. I would happily accept others views on 'we dont know the ins and outs etc etc) BUT 1. This has happened before, more than once 2. we seem less able to attract decent players than we did even last season and 3. Everywhere said it was a done deal even before yesterday so he was clearly very keen, when we so desperately need a CB how could this go wrong AGAIN?

Being reported in Nottingham that we are offering him around £15k a week. Would those who are slating Jewell & Clegg be happy for us to go even higher than that to compete with Leeds or some Premiership clubs for his signature?

It's the Shaun Derry debacle under Keano all over again. Get him for a medical, tour of the ground and then offer unacceptable terms. Embarrassing.

Shouldn't rule out that he's also had his head turned by his agent, with Leeds interested and (it appears) with lots of cash now. Typical agents always after the best bonus for them.

Either way, this is rubbish news. Clegg & Evans are hopeless

You're a player and Ipswich have expressed an interest. You drive down and arrive. Not bad! Nice stands. Stripey lawn. History oozing from the rafters. There's a funny noise behind you and you wheel round. A chubby, depressed bloke is standing there. The funny noise is Scouse, incomprehensible to most. A translation of the noise is 'I'm the manager'. Your heart shifts south. A nice-but-dim posh bloke appears. 'What ho! Have you been to Guam? Carried the torch? By now your heart is sinking fast. 'Come and meet the owner'. You go into an office. A figure is seated behind a desk, a bag over his head. You can't hear him speak. Not because of the bag. Because he doesn't say anything. Your heart has sunk down into your Addidas orange boots. You return to your car. Don't ring me. I'll call you.

And people wonder why decent players don't want to come to Ipswich.
