Jakupović Linked With Hull Return
Jakupović Linked With Hull Return
Monday, 9th Jul 2012 00:19

Town trialist Eldin Jakupović is set to opt for a return to Hull City, where he spent time on trial last season and was offered a deal, rather than join the Blues, according to a report. Perhaps notably, the source, the Daily Mail, is the same one which broke the news of the Blues’ interest in the Bosnian-born former Swiss international last Thursday and also revealed that the Tigers were trying to land Manchester United’s Ben Amos on loan.

The 27-year-old was offered terms at the KC Stadium by former manager Nick Barmby but the move fell through after the former England international’s departure over the summer.

Now, new boss Steve Bruce appears to have revived the deal - reportedly a two-year contract - for the free agent, who it is said will battle Amos - a player also on Paul Jewell’s list of potential new keepers - for the Tigers’ number one jersey.

On Thursday, Jewell said Jakupović was due to spend a week training with the Blues and had impressed him up to then.

However, he said that he had alternative options aside from the former Aris, Lokomotiv Moscow and Grasshoppers man: “We’re having a look at him for the week, but we’ve also got two or three other targets that even if that happens we might pursue.”

What report?

This is so frustrating, I really hope town manage to get a decent number 1 keeper this season. Hopefully on a permanent basis and not on loan!

Just a quick question, where has this information come from that we are showing 3 signed players tomorrow??

Yeah, Daily Mail, read confusingly, so have amended it.

Doubt this, none of us have seen him, so I wont cry if he signs somewhere else (which I would if Chambers went elsewhere) :)

He seemed alright. Obviously no one knows if he would actually cut it here but quite disappointed if he "opted to join hull rather than town". Wouldn't have minded him and perhaps another keeper.

Looked good on the vid links ive seen, although they never show his ability to deal with crosses and command his area - something only watching him play competitive matches.

Fingers crossed we get a good No.1 sorted out soon!

In my opinion we should be prepared to spend big on a number one keeper this summer, either in terms of a transfer fee, or in wages.

Bite the bullet Evans/Clegg, we've failed to sort the keeper issue for three years now, so accept that it may take a little extra to do so. Make it happen.

I'm hoping we go for Alex Smithies from Huddersfield. A good young keeper that has ability. Also we could negotiate the Rhodes sell on clause in the deal. When is this German keeper set to come on trial? Surely PJ would want him here early to get a good look

Another frustrating week for us fans. Wonder if Chambers will sign today?

Can we sell ITFC to any player these days? They come in have a look around, stall on singing and hope someone else comes in, time after time it happpens. You would have to be very nieve not to believe theres something not quite right.

What next, we opt to go for the ex-Colchester keeper but he opts for Barnsley over us? It feels like no one wants to come to Ipswich at the moment. Let's have some signings ITFC to cheer us all up!

Good to see him go to Hull take it from me his not what the Town want as No1

So another potential player linked (and will probably go) elsewhere. If we fail to address the keeper situation this summer then I think we should start making our feelings known how unhappy some of us are to the powers that be at PR.
I was once full of optimism but these sorts of things are only making me more disillusioned as to what's going on at the moment.

maybe this GK is going to Hull, because Town have actually gone for another GK?

@ Mr Evans, Huddersfield don't need to sell so it would take more money than we've got/prepared to spend to get Smithies here and as for Rhodes............................

The report is from that well known "reliable" source the Daily Mail so would take it from whence it comes. However If he is happy to be understudy to Amos, then he shows no ambition or desire.

Lets hope pj sent him on his way if he wants to be at hull. Hopefully some signings this week so the new players can adapt to whatever system we will be playing.

Sky sports ay he's agreed a two year deal with Hull, who have also got Ben Amos on a season long loan. Flouncemeter on standby.

Very disappointing. The players are back for pre-season training and we have NO new fit signings to show. Appreciate we need to be 'careful' with our future transfer activity - no point risking financial ruin - BUT other clubs are signing players. PJ/Clegg/ME may have to rethink their strategy as at present we are simply not competing. Hope PJ has a Plan E,F and G - something he admits not having last pre-season.

Less than 6 weeks before the first game - and new players need to settle in. Lots for Jewell to ponder.

I don't think anybody knows enough about this keeper to get annoyed if he goes to Hull. Maybe they have offered a concrete offer first and he is desperate to get something sewn up?

I have, however, seen Smithies play a few times, and he looks very dodgy. Anybody who watched the play off final would wince at the prospect of him joining us, his inability to deal with crosses was extremely worrying.

It's a shame Kusczak didn't sign. Loach looks our best bet now that Guzan is likely to stay at Villa.

I know ive said it before but maybe we should approach Shane Supple. Give him a short term deal & let him see if he wants longer. It makes sense. Good keeper, free, & knows the club.

Alex Smithies is still young, he's one for the future maybe but not the finished article yet. Having said that, how many young English 'one for the future' keepers haven't really made it in the end, Kirkland and our own Richard Wright being 2 of the most notable over last 10 years.
