Chambers Signs for Town Monday, 9th Jul 2012 14:24
Town have confirmed the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers on a three-year deal. The 26-year-old free agent was at Portman Road this morning to tie up the detail of his move, having been at the club last Tuesday for a medical and to look at the stadium and training facilities.
Chambers told the club site: "I'm delighted to be an Ipswich Town player. I spoke to a few people in the game that know the manager and Ipswich and they had nothing but good words to say. Coming here was a no-brainer for me."
Manager Paul Jewell added: "There were a few clubs in for Luke but I always felt confident we would get him and I'm delighted we have."
Chambers is Town’s second signing of the summer after Macclesfield’s Elliott Hewitt, who joined for a fee of £250,000 plus top-ups at the end of May, also signing a three-year deal.
Town have announced a press conference at 4pm this afternoon.

He looks alot leaner with the itfc jersey Than the pic with him wearing the forest one. Looks like he is serious about the new chapter in his career. Well done to all involved, even at times i was doubtful it would happen. Glad it has. Lets get behind our team, management, owner, ceo. With us all backing the before mentioned we may have a chance.

I think Phil will confirm I first posted 2/3 weeks ago L.Chambers would sign n a three year deal: I hope every negative post comes back n apologises for all the rubbish being posted bout we never sign decent players we lack ambition etc: alot of people should know Clegg has little too do with transfers it's left 2 Evans n Jewell: let's get behind the club too much doom n gloom if we can sign 4 more players of similar quality we can challenge top 10: Chambers right age good organiser n good bet 2 b club captain COYB!!

Well by all accounts Forest fans didn't rate him all that highly, yet we're getting so excited over one free transfer because we're so desperate for players and we've seen a few slip from underneath us. Now don't get me wrong, I am happy with this signing, but the way some of you are reacting on here I thought we'd just signed Messi.

Quality! Well done PJ/SC/ME. I like Jewell's slowly slowly catchy monkey approach. We don't need any more rush job players!

buryblue77 - I know where you're coming from, but you have to consider how bad we were defensivly last year and how much we need/needed an experienced championship (yet still in his prime) right sided centre back. We now have that player. Seems a very 'McAuley type' signing, which can only be a good thing really. I wouldn't give him the captaincy though. Edwards has proved to be a decent skipper so let's not upset the balance and expect a new signing to come in and lead from the front. Chambers and Delaney, Chambers and Smith, I don't mind particularly. I could see the former working well, but Smith probably needs to continue playing, I don't think he can afford another stop-start season.

Welcome Luke, am pleased this one is in the bag at last. So how many of the moaning, negative posters who couldnt wait to post before the story was complete are big enough to admit they got it wrong now then...............Yep thought so just checked and none so far!

3 year contracts show that the management are at last taking a long term view and not just quick fixes which have let us down so many times now. A couple of more signings and we can look at promotion in 2 or 3 seasons with Chambers and Smith forming a solid partnership. COYB!!!

I've just made a list of the keepers left to pick from....Heaton, the German guy on trial, Loach, Williams, Button, and the Gillingham youngster. Surely one amongst these will be possible?

Looks a very promising signing and a great start to pre season. A regular partner for Tommy Smith can only be a good thing and a young strong back four will hopefully be complimented soon with the signing of a quality keeper. Well done PJ. COYB.

buryblue77. yer the forest fans didnt rate him, so much so that season before last he was their player of the season,& last season he finished 2nd. think you may find that those fans who posted negative comments about him on here just showing sour grapes that he leaving their club. as for you pjneeds duncan. words fail me.

Garv, I'd most definitely go Chambers and Smith, Tommy is the future, Delaney isn't but is ok as back up. We do need another RCB as well really as we're still a bit light. Edwards after a shaky start adapted to the position of RB and to captaincy even better so I would keep Carlos as captain.

A very good signing. Hope it works out for him here. Our first FIT player signing of the Summer. Now to atrract more players after a quiet Summer to date - where whatever people on here say, players have chosen other clubs over us. Thank goodness no one else was talking to chambers!
