Lonergan Completes Bolton Move
Lonergan Completes Bolton Move
Tuesday, 17th Jul 2012 10:57

Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan has completed his move to Bolton a fee of around £200,000. The Blues and Sheffield Wednesday were also believed to have targeted the 28-year-old former Preston man.

Town go into tonight’s first pre-season friendly at Helmond Sport with Arran Lee-Barrett their only senior keeper (KO 7pm, local time).

The game against the Dutch Eerste Divisie side will see central defender Luke Chambers make his first appearance in a Blues shirt.

Prior to that game, there is a fans' match, also at Helmond Sport's main stadium (KO 4pm, local time).

Elsewhere, former Blue Pim Balkestein has joined AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer from Brentford.

Pointless story Ipswich were never interested in Lonergan

i can live with not having a keeper now, but it would be good for the new keeper to have at least of couple of games with the defence before season opener. At least that's only the COC cup.

Agree Bluey420 - this was a nothing story with no basis for validity as far as i can see. Still think that PJ will suddenly announce a GK signing out of the blue. I simply cannot believe that he's doing nothing about this.

I love the fact that people on here think they know more about this story than Phil.

Surely we expressed an interest....Experienced Championship keeper available at a relatively low price.....whats not to be interested in?

My guess would be that he's not interested in us :-(

Attracting new players ain't as easy as it used to be here.

But with what the club has achieved over the last 10 years
Should we be surprised we have so much trouble attracting new blood.

But I must say it does peeve me a bit when a club like col utd
Sign Freddie sears from west ham just like that.

Of course it is of interest if a player Ipswich were linked with is signing for another club, even if that were expected. If things like this were not reported, this site could go days without a story!

Hopefully Jewell has got another keeper lined up, and I expect a deal is being worked on now. I guess we are more on edge due to the failure to sign a permanent keeper last summer, and before that a string of keepers who were below average being brought into the club (Fulop being the biggest mistake). We need to find another Kelvin Davis, a solid, reliable keeper.

I find our inability to find a permanent keeper baffling. It was so obviously the number-one priority at the end of last season. How can we be going on a pre-season tour with only one keeper? Madness.

Happy to be bench warmer

Hopefully pj has the answer. This is going on far too long. We will end up with someone on loan at this rate.

Yet again we miss out something we're getting use to :-(

See no way that he'll ever be picked ahead of Bogdan at Bolton. So yes a 28 year old keeper who's now resigned to being a benchwarmer. Not what we really want.
What happened to Heaton possibly joining the Dutch trip?

@ JimmyJazz:

From the "Williams Appointment Result of Jewell and Clegg Discussions" story: "We understand there is nothing in overnight reports from Wales claiming Blues interest in ex-Cardiff man Tom Heaton."

I think GK and CB have been the key signings and think/hope PJ has been planning this , as he had with Chambers.
Wouldn't be surprised if its a player from Premier League and we are waiting for the squads to be sorted.
He hinted at this recently and that press hadn't got all his targets, so time will tell.
I hope so , Cos agree that ALB is not the long term answer.

This in itself may not be that interesting to some; but I am concerned that the noises coming out of PR give the impression that the club has suddenly become a bit strapped for cash.
from Aug 1st last year the club has only paid out £300m on 2 transfers, where as previously an average of some £4,350,000 pa has been shelled out over the 4 years of Mr Evans tenure.
I was looking back over the last 30 years of transfers and only in 1991 and 2 years of dear old Joes's reign when nothing was paid out;has the club spent less, since the mid 80's

This I suggest is why the club are losing out to clubs like Crystal Palace,Brighton and now Bolton Wanderers.
I am not suggesting the club spend £14 odd million as it did in 2003,or even as much as has been spent previously;but the club really cant be expected to compete even at this level, let alone get to the Premiership on this meagre outlay;but then its not my money.

Im guessing that Lonergan would have preferred a club up North. Its frustrating to see a semi decent keeper for what appears to cost silly money just pass us by!

We can only hope that PJ has another keeper lined up or ALB has been doing some serious training during the summer...

Not at all disappointed with this, everyone only seems to want him as a back up keeper anyway! Surely there are some decent goalkeepers at lower level that won't break the bank?
