Peters Set for Town Exit
Peters Set for Town Exit
Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 10:55

Town’s longest-serving player Jaime Peters looks set to leave the Blues this summer with manager Paul Jewell confirming that the club are looking to terminate the Canadian international’s contract. Peters was left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of Holland along with striker Nathan Ellington, who Jewell says still has time to resurrect his Town career.

Jewell said: “We’ve only got so many places [on the tour], we can’t take everybody. Jaime Peters, I think he knows the club are looking at possibly terminating his contract. He needs to go and play some football.”

Peters has been with the Blues since impressing in a trial in 2004, but last season made only the one appearance, in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton.

In January, SPL side St Johnstone would have signed the 25-year-old on loan but the move abroad in a footballing sense was prevented by the three club rule, Peters having already played for the Blues and loan club AFC Bournemouth within 12 months. The Perth side may well be amongst the clubs monitoring Peters’s situation.

Despite not travelling to Holland, Jewell insists Nathan Ellington, who like Peters has a year left on his contract, can break back into the Town side: “I decided not to bring him, but it doesn’t mean it’s the end of his career by any stretch of the imagination.

“He would argue that he hasn’t had a chance since he’s been here, which I totally agree with, but you’ve got to earn that chance and Nathan hasn’t done well enough over the season to be top of the pecking order as far as the forwards are concerned.”

Once again, Simon Clegg hamstrings the club by insisting we move one of its most versatile players off the books. Disgrace.

Well said 1RWR there is a total lack of respect by some on here, the one thing you couldn't say about Peters was that he didn't try, he just lacked quality sometimes. Good Luck Jamie hope you find what you want.....has it really been 8 years??!!

Is the Arsenal game the only game Peters can be remembered as having a good game ?
I could name countless games playing for us where he was very poor ,and saw him for Bournemouth last season where he was dreadful and got taken off and then returned to us .He has not held down a run in the team for any manager at Ipswich in all his time which speaks volumes itself .
And why do people simplify it to a choice between Ellington and Peters ? If we required a striker on the bench i would have Ellington everytime .
Good luck Jamie in the rest of your career

I always thought that he has given 100% and defo a favourite of mine and the fans.

Ellington on the other hand - waste of space and shouldnt have been given more than a year to start with.

Will never understand why PJ has taken against Peters..always looked like a decent little player to me..best of luck Jaimie.

Jewell,do us a favour and get rid of Ellington asap.

Cant believe Magic gave Peters a four year deal when he was manager. I suspect the reason for not disposing of Ellington is the fact is he's highly likely to be on a far bigger wage than Peters and would cost more to get rid.

Shouldn't be let go, anyone else remember him v arsenal, kept Theo Walcott quiet all night. Decent player and deserves a crack at first team football again

Best wishes Jaime. As readtheleaguetable suggests perhaps Paul Mariner would like to have you at Toronto FC. Surely you need competitive games so perhaps he could loan you out for part of the winter too. You would love our weather here in Toronto at the moment!

Always rated Jaime and seemed a nice fella to boot. Not given any chance under PJ even though Roy Keane had certain playing options under him. Personally far better than a lot of players at the club but if your face doesn't fit then it's time to go. Good luck Jaime and thanks for everything.

this would be an awefull desision in my eyes he is a quality rb and could be a spare after elliot which would give edward a chnce at right wing

One of two things here - he either doesn't impress in training consistantly enough, or his face doesn't fit with Jewell. Can't really see attitude being a problem.

Whatever it is - shame - because the lad has much to offer in terms of talent.

..... good to see some sensible level headed posts in Peters favour - in my opinion needs games, and right Manager who will encourage him - has taken many knocks from Jewell, which has in all probability taken it's toll.

There are times when you can give everything. but if you don't fit with the Manager - unfortunately that can mean having to move on.
