Jewell: Youthful Squad Signals Bright Future
Saturday, 15th Sep 2012 06:41

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Town have a bright future with young players making up much of his first team squad.

Jewell said: “I was looking at our squad and we’ve got 24 pros and something like nine of them are under 21. The squad is quite inexperienced, we’ve got a couple of 30-somethings and everyone else is at decent ages.

“The likes of Jack and Ronan Murray, Luke, Massimo, we think they’re all going to be decent players and they are part of our squad. I think the future’s quite bright for Ipswich.

“We can’t just have a whole team of young players but I think these lads are really starting to show, in training, not just in matches, that they belong here.”

Another youngster, 18-year-old Elliott Hewitt, was signed from Macclesfield in the summer and is likely to make his first team bow at some point this month having returned to action with the U21 side after his hip impingement operations.

Recent signing Paul Taylor, relatively young himself at 24, came in last month and impressed his manager during his debut against Huddersfield and in training during the international break: “I think there’s a lot more to come from him. It was obviously a big week for him, a big move for him.

“He’s looked really sharp in training and we’re really pleased with him. I think he gives us a different string to our bow. He’s someone who can pick it up and he’s got pace, he’s got hunger and he’s really, really enjoying himself. We’re hoping that he can stay that way and score us plenty of goals.”

The Blues boss is clearly frustrated that Taylor is still to be joined at the club by central defensive reinforcements: “For some reason it feels like the whole world is against us at times. We just think we’re going to make progress on a player and something happens.

“It’s important that we don’t feel sorry for ourselves. There are 42 games left in a very tough competitive league.”

The future is bright for Ipswich maybe but giving Massimo as an example? oh dear Paul, poor choice of example considering he's only hear on loan for the season so diddley to do with our future.
The future wont be so bright if he doesn't get our a CB or two in quickly.
Start talking positive when it looks positive on the pitch, having players who loose, create very little chances, capitulate when loosing, sit back on 1 goal leads and have too many shots off target as we break too slow and end up with speculative long range shots is not a positive sign even if they are young.
I'm not saying it's total doom and gloom yet, I just find it's a far too positive statement from what we've seen so far this season.

Just what I thought, why include a loan player in that statement. I think we are on hold until he gets replaced as I just don't think he has it in him to get us up. He has made far too many mistakes. Either that or he is a puppet doing exactly what the powers above what. If that is the case I'm sorry for him as there will be nowhere to go after this job. I don't even think teams in leagues below us would want him either.

I agree Luongo is not the best example to have used, but there is definitely reason for careful optimism- we have Loach (24) included in the full England squad a couple of years ago and still 5 years away from his "peak", Hyam (20) arguably our best player this season, Cressy and JET (both early 20s), 2 of our better players last season Hewitt(18) and Taylor (24) who we've yet to see what they can do. I want to see a decent CB or 2 in the squad as anybody but all of the players listed above are only going to get better and could be the life blood of our club for the next 7/8 years.. Rome wasnt built in a day and all that!!!

Stop moaning just because he made a bad examle! Thf chaps got a point, Yes we havent been setting the world on fire, but we havent been ridiculusly bad over EVERY game, and if you look at the ages of most of our players he im the right.

Yes, the example was not the best considering Luongo is on loan, and Murray and Ainsley are unlikely to make it at ITFC in my opinion. It is true that we have a youthful squad however and that is a very good thing. If only we could bring in a decent centre-back then things would be looking good I think.

These lads wont make it if our club goes down.PJ get your team right on the pitch first before you talk about the future.

Don't understand the negativity surrounding the start to the season we've had.

Blackburn home - by all accounts a good performance with good football - draw.
Watford away - another good performance - win.
Blackpool away (promotion favourites) - good patient football first half, fell apart in the second - loss.
Huddersfield home - very good football at times, Taylor looking the quality player he is, poor defending - draw.

Let's see what happens today eh?

Yes we need a centre half , but it is important to get the right one , things are looking up at itfc , compared to this time last season , this defender issue may well be the last piece to an ultimately sucessful side

Can the first two dullard posters adjust their posts grammatically in order that they may gain any credence.

We might sign Massimo at the end of his loan spell. Stranger things have happened.

Garv:

Agree, and would simply add that we should have won the Blackburn game.

Jewells record at developing young players at any of his previous clubs is not good. He's good at spotting value in the transfer market and signs a whole new team every time

Which makes it even more important that you have a team from the first game of the season.

Watching that Norwich game, what a bad advert for the prem. Awful match.

We sure have a bright future and the moaning by some of you, just because he named a loanee. We have lots of young talent IMO that can progress in this side as years go by, only if we can keep hold of them.

Tricky game today, hopefully 3 points! COYB

As I said earlier tonight; He is good at making excuses this fat, balding git from Liverpul. I'm so tired of seeing his stupid face on Ipswich Player aswell. Some people may say he needs more time to get a squad setteled, but I say; enough is enough!! I want a manager with his heart and soul in Ipswich. What that entails is that we do not need a git from Liverpool, nor a git from Manchester(Keane). I love Ipswich so much and I want whoever is in charge to be sucsessfull, but I think there is many things at Itfc that ain't as it should be. We have a wealthy owner, great facillities and great supporters, but still we are at the bottom of the Championship, and have bin since Magilton got sacked. I miss him as a player and as Manager. Some days I feel like letting Ipswich go, but I have invested far to much time in them. 30 years to be accurate. Up with Town!!!
