Jewell Considering Town Future After Hull Defeat Saturday, 20th Oct 2012 17:37 Boss Paul Jewell says he will think over his Town position over the weekend after the Blues stretched their run of games without a win to 10 at Hull City. Jewell will consult with club owner Marcus Evans and other people close to him as he assesses what he feels is best not just for himself but for the club.
With banners calling for his exit again on show amongst the Town support, he says he empathises with where those supporters are coming from: “The fans of this football club, more than most, travel every other week huge distances and they’re not happy. I fully understand that and I accept the criticism that comes my way. I’ve had it before.
“What I want to do is what’s best for the club. I don’t want to quit but at the same time I have to realise what the best thing is for Ipswich, not just Ipswich, me as well, and the team. I have a lot of thinking to do over the weekend and we’ll see where it takes us.”
He says he considers where things are after each match, not just at the difficult times: “I think every game, whether we win a game or lose the game.
“It isn’t just one occasion. We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’ and if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me, if I decide the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.
“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”
As regards the game itself, he said: “Losing a late goal has been the bane of us really, but I think Hull deserved to win. I don’t think anyone who was at the game can say they didn’t deserve to win it.
“They put 31 crosses into the box and we didn’t stop any and they deservedly won the game. I’m not hiding behind anything.
“Late goals are very difficult to take, but the reason we concede late goals is because we allow crosses to come into the box.”
Hull boss Steve Bruce was relieved but felt his side deserved their victory: “For me it was the right result, we were the only ones who were trying to win it.
"I can understand Ipswich trying to hang on with the position they were in and scoring in the last couple of minutes is always great.”

The fall-guy is Jewell - the root cause of the problem is Evans and Clegg. Clueless since Evans/Clegg arrived - getting rid of Magilton a mistake (had passion and potential) - appointing Keane and Jewell a mistake (both had dubious managerial records). Evans should walk away.

I'm not gonna get into a personal attack on Paul Jewell the man is down and out and I'm not into stating the obvious but here's an idea for a caretaker and who knows maybe a full time replacement,Brian Klug

What worries me is that our owner knows nothing about football so how is he going to pick the right manager. Two failures so far, who's next

PJ was never the right man for town..never never never. If he goes (and he should in my opinion) The 2 "coaches" he brought with him need to go as well. They are as much to blameas PJ, that's what happens when you give important influential jobs to your mates? As coaches go all they seem to do is coach skills OUT of the players. We need an experienced man, with knowledge of the club, its ethos and values...put Bryan KLug in charge for now.....see what happens, lets face it he will have the supporters behind him and is in a win win situation...if he accepts!

Feel for pj as he does care, but feel far far more for our clubs future. If he doesn't go now he will look even more of a twit than he already does. Wot wd be worse is Evans backing him. If he continues to it will just show how out of touch he is. Evans is important and he continues to bankroll the club. His problem is he needs a well respected football man as CEO and get a young manager who will identify talent and take us forward with modern coaching methods. I wd like Appleton or Robinson. If not billy Davies with a young assistant for the future. I also feel we need to bring the likes of Matt holland and fab into the club-individuals with blue and white in their veins and who care passionately about the club. I'd love tarricco, but is he just a number two or cd he step up a level? COYB

I've been calling for jewels head for some time - well to the west ham and gooner supporters in billericay that care to listen - and my wife is utterly bored of it now as I scream out every morning - please Paul just go now - I thinks she harbours suspicions that I am in the closet. Alas the time has come - it is obvious that master jewell is a thoroughly decent geezer - the type of cheeky scouser that you would quite like to share a pint with - and exchange escort stories with (and not the 1980 ford motor vehicle kind....... I fell a plug for punter net coming on)- but do we really want him running our great club ? At best his training methods and starting selection - formation, seem dated at worst he is simply out of his depth and living in a way more modern era than he is capable of operating within. We have heard many excuses over the last couple of years - from making mistakes and employing too many dated loanees other 2010 and 2011 season to changing tact completely and employing too many youngsters to try to appease the fans - and then again going full circle to signing too many dated loanees in the 2011 and 2012 season - he neither has an expedition able plan nor any courage in his many changing convictions. I do not pretend to have any idea who we should bring in to replace - I like the sentiment of an old boy - but then look at Kenny and Keagan - on the other hand you could have a young hungry manager - but then for everyone that succeeds you have an nice - or better still let's get a seasoned fella in - hang on errikson and Biddle were a disaster - ok so this proves I have no idea what I am talking about - BUT - I do know its time for change - I operate in an industry whe if I don't perform - I simply lose my job - no compensation - I just go - I would like to think that despite Paul's best efforts he would appreciate the support he has had from both chairman and fans and do the honourable thing and leave - without taking any more from this great institution. Rant over

If he's considering his position sounds like the end. ME then has a huge decision re. a replacement. Hope he gets some good 'football' advice as to who to appoint. And credit to PJ if he walks, in that, as an earlier post said, this could be his last managerial job (unless he goes down to some lower level).

Lot of unnecessarily unpleasant comments, given the bloke's tried his hardest for ITFC, but it hasn't worked and now it seems he's beaten. Or do you all expect to be personally abused every time you lack competence at work?
Urchin added 23:08 - Oct 20
Think that pj is a genuine , honest guy and if he steps down rather than being pushed it will be a testament to his honesty. It hasn't worked at all for him and it's definitely time for a change. I know many are fed up with him to put it very mildly and I appreciate why but lets hope when he goes we don't get abusive personal posts directly aimed at him. If he leaves with dignity we should reciprocate. If he gets pushed then let's simply wish him well.

Am sick to death with hearing Paul Jewell is a nice guy. How do you know? The way he has treated some of players, Hyam, Lee Barrett has not appeared nice from outside. Also, Even if he is nice which is at it seems when talking to press, not really what I would like to see. I want a manager to be fair first, then strong. Nice per se is quite a way down list. Alex Ferguson nice? No.

multiplescoregasms added 00:23 - Oct 21
Well I really hope he goes now, it's got to the point where we are going to look at avoiding relegation as a good season. I hate to say it, but we really do look like a club heading towards Division 1. I know some clubs, like NCFC have gone down and then bounced back stronger, but a lot more teams go down and don't come back. Can anyone truly see anything positive within the club at the moment? It just hasn't worked out for PJ, and although I think he is a good man who is trying his best, the fact is he just hasn't been the manager we all wanted. Too many loan players hasn't helped, especially with young players within the club who can do/have done just as good as those who have come in. Money well spent, or money thrown away? Fans money at that. In all my years as a Town supporter, I have never seen the club is such a sorry state, and neither have I been as worried that we are about to fall through the trap door and not come back. Sad days indeed.
