Town Linked With McCarthy Talks
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 20:14

Town are reported to have spoken to former Millwall, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy. The 53-year-old has always been viewed as amongst the experienced bosses the Blues would be interested in speaking to as they look for a replacement for Paul Jewell, who left by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Presumably as a result of the reports, the odds on McCarthy becoming the next Blues boss have tumbled with some bookmakers

The club are remaining tight-lipped regarding potential targets, refusing to rule in or out any specific individuals.

McCarthy, who left Wolves in February and spoke to Nottingham Forest this summer, would appear to fit the profile of the new manager Town are looking for as outlined by chief executive Simon Clegg at Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM: “This is not going to be a high-risk appointment.

“We need to have someone that we’ve got confidence in, who has got the necessary experience and skill-base to get us out of this current hole and get us to where we want to go in the long run.”

Not my number one choice, but at least he would get rid of some of the players that think its ok to go out on the p*ss hours after the manager they were apparently "gutted" to see leave with the club bottom of the league.

Has a good record in this league and definately a leading contender in my opinion.

Taffy, very true, wouldnt win any personality contests but would love to be a fly on the wall with some of the players, has an excellent record in this league although not so great in the Premier league, but I suppose we shouldnt exactly be looking to the Premiership right now.

People keep telling me we'll be a long ball team under him but we have been hitting longs balls under Jewell to players who win nothing in the air. At least he'll get players in to play his system

Not a fan of his as a person, but his experience at this level and no nonsense stance will stand us in good stead and get us moving in the right direction.

Yeah boring football will be a Portman Road if he is appointed but as said will soon sort the wheat out from the chaff , he has his plus and minus points in my opinion.

My mates a wolves season ticket holder and has nothing but good things to say about super mick. He my number 1 choice and always has been. But does he want us?

Dissboyitfc your right we need a manager that wins football matches not someone who can do standup, although would admit he is a bit boring to listen to and cant get over how much he looks like that eagle from the muppets.

He may not play great football but if he makes my team win on a Saturday I wont be complaining too much, this is what matters, would you rather see us try and play some decent enough football like we did under Jewell but become complacent and lose games or have a manager who will get us organised and more importantly get us results, Ideally we want good football and good results but not everything is perfect. He would more than stablise us and more than satisfied if big Mick was appointed.

Forget the boring side of Mick McCarthy, we need someone with his strength to pull this squad of players together.

You can't always play pretty football and expect to win people! It's when we're playing his football and losing is when we have to worry. I still would like to see Curbs here though.
