A Loan Again Orr
Tuesday, 13th Nov 2012 23:36

Town are set to sign Blackburn right-back Bradley Orr on loan, according to a national newspaper. The 30-year-old has been left on the bench since Henning Berg took over as manager at Ewood Park.

Orr started his career with Newcastle, during which time he was linked with the Blues, spending a period on loan at Burnley while with the Magpies. In 2004 the 6ft-tall full-back joined Bristol City and he was to spend the next six years at Ashton Gate.

In July 2010 he moved on to QPR where he helped Neil Warnock’s side to the Championship title. Having featured only fleetingly after their promotion to the Premier League, the Liverpudlian joined Blackburn in January 2012.

Orr will be best remember by Town fans for being sent off in the Blues’ 6-0 victory over Bristol City in November 2007.

A move for a right-back is no surprise with Blues manager Mick McCarthy having said he prefers to see skipper Carlos Edwards in midfield.

The addition of Orr would take Town's total of domestic loanees back to five, the maximum permitted in a matchday 18 with Stephen Henderson, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell and Bilel Moshni already at the club.

At the weekend, McCarthy said he was keen for Richie Wellens to return from Leicester, his month having ended after Saturday's 2-1 victory over Burnley.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong is believed to be viewed as a possible contingency should Leicester not want to extend the 32-year-old's spell, although McCarthy may not be keen to take the loan total back to six where he would always have to leave a player out of the squad, Massimo Luongo having recently been sent back to Spurs in such circumstances.

Football League clubs are permitted to bring 'emergency' loanees in until the deadline on Thursday of next week.

Like many, not too happy with another loan but he's an experienced player who'll fill a gap in a weak area.

Orr not another loan player.
I suppose Mick knows what he is doing.
And we do need a right back at the moment.
I have faith in the silver fox.

In terms of the structure of the team, this loan makes so much sense. Allowing Edwards to move forwards to right midfield seems to have been one of MM's primary concerns since joining and this allows it happen.

Also, Bradley Orr is a more than capable right back at this level, its luck for us that Berg doesn't rate him because he would be first choice for many teams in this league.

Really hope this ones true!

I think that it might have been polite to ask me, don't you?

MM unfortunately can't sign players until jan, at least he is making a effort to plug the gaps until he can sign some players for the future. At least it's not another midfielder, it a productive loan.

no great expectations of the left back freebie but is pretty much a zero risk move, this one seems absolutely ideal in terms of pedigree and an out and out right back. FInally a manager who looks for round pegs for round holes it would seem.

Like many I don't especially like loans but think MM is thinking short term in order to get out of the bottom three. I'd imagine that Orr (if this story is correct) will be here until Elliot Hewitt gets more U21 games under his belt.

I'm not sure who MM think he is...he is actually trying to play players in their natural positions rather than fitting them in all over the place....it'll never catch on.

Loans or free agents are the only way McCarthy can get players in until January. Stop grumbling, the man's doing what he can.

Loving the headline! As another said above, this would make sense to get Edwards to move forward. Hewitt, I think isn't quite fit enough yet and Ainsley isn't quite experienced yet or proven enough. Good if it's true.

Just had to congratulate you on the brilliant headline Phil. Very clever, one of the best I've seen. For the younger viewers of this website, there is an old song called 'alone again or' by a group by Love. It's almost like you have been waiting to use that line - excellent.
I'm pleased to see that MM is sorting things out by starting from the back. He has no choice but to use loanees for now to get us out of the bottom three. I do think that given time this will change. How many years have we all been saying that someone needs to sort out the defence?
It may not be pretty under Mick, but I believe he will make us hard to beat and will get the slackers in the club either working hard or will get rid. I'd take a 0-0 on Saturday thank you and then we can sort out Peterborough next week.

mat86 its either a song by love or Phil's a FAN OF The Damned who had an album of the same name in the 80's. Any bets on wich. As for orr quality player if we can get him but I had a feeling that MM could attract the better players.COYB

I said we should sign this guy way back in his Bristol City days, could become an excellent permanent signing for us. The sort of player we should have identified while we spent the last few seasons messing about trying to cover up the loss of a very accomplished right back in David Wright.

Good player and pleased he's looking for a right back as that means he obviously believes Edwards is a winger (something we knew 3 years ago)

MM reads the game so well he really does give you the feeling he has the measure of this club and is quietly going about his business unlike PJ who told everyone who he was going to sign alerting other clubs to his targets. Its refreshing not to have to listen to all PJs excuses for failure. Feel alot better with MM in charge and dont dread saturday nights anymore.

Great headline, Love it.
Great to see MM looking to address areas of weakness head on rather than just slotting in temporary subatandard (no reflection on Carlos) solutions. Mick seems to understand the concept of balance, something a surprising number of managers can't get their heads around. The 2 previous managers tended to buy the player first & then worry about how to accommodate him - Taylor was the most recent example. Mick looks to be putting a side together, where each player can play to his strenght while complimenting the team. It sounds straightforward enough, but many managers can't seem to grasp it.

There are loans and there are loans, some of PJs I could not understand and were truely scraping the barrel in terms of quality and with little stratgic value. This one is makes complete sense, real quality player, experience, triggers Edwards forward to a position we all can see is his natural one. Most imporant message I feel is that Mick can attract the sort of quality players here we need. Lets hope this goes through and perhaps becomes permanent. The rebuild starts here....

The only way Mick can bring people in at the moment is through this system or players who don't have a club.

We will never see Edwards at rb again and our biggest weakness is that we let in too many goals, a lot coming from wide positions.

I know its alien to us with the last 2 managers, but we have a manager who is making sure we have enough back up in our weakest position. Also means that chambers could revert to central defence if need be so no need for another centre half.

In Mick we trust.
