Dyer Leaves QPR
Dyer Leaves QPR
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 11:19

Former Town midfielder Kieron Dyer has left QPR after the Premier League side activated a release clause in his contract. Dyer, 34, moved to Loftus Road in the summer of 2011, shortly after an injury-hit loan spell back with the Blues, his hometown club.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp said: "I'd like to thank Kieron for his services to QPR. If he can stay clear of injuries I'm sure there's clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football.

"He wasn't in my plans and I think he's got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best."

Dyer came through the Town academy and was at Portman Road until joining Newcastle United in the summer of 1999 for a fee which eventually rose to £6.5 million.

The midfielder returned home on loan from West Ham in March 2011 but was able to make just one start and three sub appearances.

His time with QPR was similar hampered by fitness issues and he made only four starts, played four games from the bench and scored his only goal in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at home to West Brom.

Dyer has said in the past that he would like to finish his career with the Blues, whether Mick McCarthy would be interested in bringing him back to Portman Road for a third spell remains to be seen.

Until he signs for someone he will constantly be linked with another return.

potential as a youth coach as when i have seen him around youth players he has been excellent, but as a player, no thanks......

inevitably we are going to be linked with him. If we got him on a cheapish pay-as-you-play contract i dont think it would be the worse thing ever.

I'd definitely take him - would be a class above if fit.

Obviously only on a nominal wage or pay as you play

Take him on a pay as you play deal and let him start his badges!

In 1999 he was an exceptional player for us and was the driving force of that team. He was widely tipped to be a regular England player and to become a football great.
Whether it was misfortune or the reported off pitch antics that were responsible he has not lived up to any of that potential.
His best role to use could be as a warning to the young players (and Mr Chopra) about the need to lead a clean life on and off the pitch to achieve your potential.
I will still remember his time at Portman Road with pleasure. Certainly in my top 10 all time blues.

If it wasn't for injuries he would easily of played 100 games for England

Pounds per minute, Kieron must be the most overpaid player of all time!

£6.5m was a good bit of business at the time although I was gutted when he left.

You can never go back in time, wish him well but not one for us, can;t see Mick being tempted.

Met him once he is a damn nice lad and his heart has always been at Ipswich, maybe one day he'll come back in some other capacity, think his playing days are over :(

If it wasn't for the money you'd feel sorry for him the injuries that he has had.
It was selling him for £5m that got us promoted.

Pay-as-you-play would be fine, perhaps leading to a coaching role as others have said. However, how he got a contract out of West Ham and then QPR god only knows.

No chance of Mick signing him! That said, we do need someone to operate from wide and take players on! On his day, full fit, Dyer COULD do the job.

We are moaning about having no midfield creativity. Here it is.
But it would make no sense unless it was on a pay-as-you-play deal, with him also contributing with the youths, perhaps.

Kieron Dyer, Richard Wright, Titus Bramble. All three should have spent their whole careers with us and become Town and England legends. They would have in another era. Very sad.

To be fair Kieron Dyer left when we were in the championship and without his transfer money we would not of gone up the following season.

Agreed with those who suggest a pay as you play deal and possibly some invlovement with the youth players.

Impressive for us, and its not exactly his fault that he's been plagued by injuries but the fact is its difficult to sign someone with that kind of injury record. @Mattinlondon he played 32 times for England, didn't score and I can't remember him making much of an impact but knowing how football has evolved he probably would have got 100 caps. Also heard that he burnt £50 notes in front of fans, if thats wrong then feel free to put me right but its what I heard, immediately put me right of him.

Another Michael Owen. I hope we stay well clear - just simply doesn't play as never fully fit and suffers injuries very easily.

Remember Richard Wright or Jimmy Bullard anyone?

Good on their day but not much use when old, injury prone and unfit.
As others have said, a potential youth coach could be good for everyone.

marshland, you are deluded if you think Dyer is the type of bloke who is going to be for teaching the likes of Chopra how to live a "clean life" the things those two together would get up to would be ridiculous.
Get real.

We've had far too many 34 year old injury prone has beens this last 5 years which has got us no where! Lets develop the 21 year old Hyams and JETs so we have a good young squad to push on in the next year or two!
