Strikers Praise Coach Connor
Thursday, 10th Jan 2013 06:00

Town assistant manager Terry Connor has been praised for his work on the training ground by two of the Blues’ strikers. Connor is working alongside manager Mick McCarthy for the second time, the pair previously having been together at Wolves.

Daryl Murphy is quick to hail Connor’s part in his return to form in recent weeks: “We do some practice as a group before we do the actual training. We get a little feel for it when we work on our finishing, things like one-on-one situations.

“When you get to the games you feel so much more confident. Terry has been absolutely brilliant since he’s been here. The training is shorter but it’s a lot more constructive.

“Everything we do in training is done for a reason. For example, if we’ve had a bad week and we’ve been conceding goals we’ll be working on our defending.

“Terry is an ex-striker himself and since he came to the club he has been a breath of fresh air. He has more than played his part in our revival.”

Connor has also made an impression on new signing Aaron Mclean, who tweeted: “After just two days I can say Terry Connor is gonna be one of the best coaches I've worked with. #Top class.”

Meanwhile, Mclean has apologised for Tweets yesterday afternoon criticising the shopping in Ipswich: “Listen anyone taken offence to me saying the shops in Ipswich are rubbish, I apologise.

“I've been coming to Ipswich for 10 years and my little sis is from here so it's banter with us. Please don't take it the wrong way. Club-wise it's brilliant and I'm buzzing to be here.”

Wow. If I was conceding goals I would have thought that it would be way more important to focus training on intricate stepovers and one two's. He must be a good coach. Defending!?! Genius.

Just saying.

I must say when I read that I thought the exact same thing, thought it was natural to concentrate in defending if you've shipped goals. Anyway I think Terry is being a bit of an unsung hero, none of us see what he does but I get the impression the players really respect him as a man and a coach. Really like what I've head about Terry and Mick's relationship, They seem to bounce of each others ideas and both have admitted they often have disagreements with each other but you want that because it shows they're inventive and passionet rather than the assistant just being the yes man.

Read through my posts, I said before mm joined that to have terry Connor here would be amazing for the clubs future. Such a passionate bloke that has earned the respect he gets

This is good to hear, it's amazing how long our strikers have underperformed. I think Walters was the last one to really shine in a town shirt (as a perminant signing)

No need to apologise Aaron. Ipswich shopping is absolute crap!!

Have to agree with you, PimsOclock...........the town centre is dreadful. The Council urgently need to do something to try and atrract "proper" shops back into the town centre. Every time I come back to Ipswich, I think the centre is getting more and more like some of the grim Northern towns that I have visited in the past watching the Town......Oldham, Middlesbrough etc. Very depressing!

This seems like good news because for years we have seen successful clubs with a flamboyant Manager but with a "behind the scenes" assistant who has had a real influence on the club but who, in his own right, would never make a successful front man. Let us hope this is what is establishing here. COYB

Get Prada into the town centre and the rest will follow. Come on Cleggy sort it out, this could be putting off transfer targets.

I think TC deserves a massive pat on the back for his influence on our climb up the table, seems to really know what he's doing and all the players respect them both which is always a good sign. Without getting carried away i'm already looking forward to next year now!

I'm showing my age, but when I lived in Ipswich there was Ridleys, Grimwades, Debenhams and a massive Co-op. When I came back recently I couldn't believe how shabby it had all got - especially up Carr Street - the most upmarket shop there is Argos. Come on Council - put your hearts into getting decent retailers back into the centre.

McLean is absolutely spot on about the Town Centre - been saying it for months now. Unless you want a new Mobile phone or a cheap present from Poundland then it is as empty as Harry Styles's sack.

How about a TWTD (ITFC) petition to be presented to IBC demanding an improvement to Ipswich Town Centre?

Phil, just curious: is there a reason why you're writing "Mclean" rather than "McLean"–does he prefer that spelling?

Just glad to see the subject of shopping in Ipswich properly addressed on this forum. But let's hope that the glamour of the high street does not distract us from the football..
