Reading Midfielder Tabb Linked
Wednesday, 6th Mar 2013 14:19

Town are reported to have made a loan enquiry regarding Reading midfielder Jay Tabb. The 29-year-old is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium in the summer and will not be offered new terms.

The 5ft 7in tall Tooting-born former Ireland U21 international hasn’t featured in the Premier League since December and has previously been mentioned in connection with a move to Blackburn.

Town are said to want the ex-Coventry and Brentford man to initially join on loan with an eye on the switch becoming a full-time deal in the summer.

The Blues recently signed Manchester United’s Reece Brown, who is also out of contract in the summer, on a similar basis.

Bit of creativity going forward, hasn't looked terrible for Reading this year, so long as it is a loan a la McGoldrick, can't see an issue.

He wouldn't be a bad signing, how old was Magic when we got him?

Would be a good signing.

Wouldn't that take our loans to 7 and only 5 can play?

It's called building for the future. Loaning him now will put us in the driving seat for later. I can see no problem with this. (Don't know much about how good he is, however, but in Mick we trust.)

Sign him up - this guy is good!

Just what we need a terrier type midfielder, like Norris but hungrier and can upset opponents with his dogged style. Go get him Mick!!!

He used to be a good player back in the day but not seen him do much in recent seasons. A loan with the option for a permanent deal sounds a good idea to me. If he turns out to be brilliant its great but if it doesn't work out we haven't lost anything. Does anyone know how Reece Brown played last night?

Sign him up, sounds like just what we need.

Why hasn't he featured for Reading?

Brown was OK but probably not the best circumstances to judge a debut.

Would be a great addition to the squad if this happened, always rated him and Church from Reading. Surprised he hasnt featured more for them this season, as a previous poster said would add much needed creativity to the midfield.

View from a Reading fan:

I hope you don't require any creativity in midfield, just industry and running. If so then Tabb will be a good signing for you. All you need to know is that Tabb hasn't scored for Reading…

Am sure McDermott would be up for that type of deal, he's told him he can leave and has been glowing about his contribution in the Champ.

Would be a solid signing for our midfield... as much as I hate loans.

Think it would be a good aquisition consdering the position we're in and if he can offer something going forward that would be a real bonus. He may not have scored for Reading but Keith Andrews was hardly prolific before he came here. I think if McGoldrick can be given good service he can score goals so hopefully Tabb could supply something, if we get him that is.

Hard working but offers little creativity.... sounds perfect for ITFC!!

To me this is how loans SHOULD be. granted some loans have helped us dodge bullets- Campbell, Andrews- however they never felt like they had permanent viability. Loans with view to buy- well... I remember the old summers days at Portman road where we collectively chanted- "Sheepshanks; get your check book out" and so started Jim's ITFC legacy! That is how a loan should be; and if this link is true; I hope Mick has a huge gem hidden in his sleeves as Burley did with Super Jim

not too sure on tabb. looks a good little player though, but i would rather us go for a permanent signing, young and a good prospect. but i wouldn't mind tabb in for a long till the end of the season, just for a bit of experience amongst the lads to see us stay in the league. WE LOVE YOU MICK!

We need some creativity. Goals have been very hard to come by.

If his middle name is Eric it could get confusing.

@CGH - you've gotta be kidding me ' a bit of creativity going forwards'? Jay Tabb is a commitment/no nonsense player who likes to put a tackle in, he is not a creative midfielder!! - I saw him play quite a few times for Coventry and can clearly confirm this.

Natural replacement for Martin- especially now he is suspended.
Makes sense as a signing- a battler- just what we need right now
