Season Ticket Prices Frozen
Thursday, 21st Mar 2013 09:24

Town have announced that they have frozen season ticket prices for a third successive season, although only for online sales, while they are introducing a three-year season ticket for the first time.

The freeze means that, for example, an adult lower tier Sir Bobby Robson Stand seat purchased online before the early bird deadline of midday on April 12th will cost £390.

There is an increase in pricing for those purchasing season tickets by methods other than online with the same Sir Bobby Robson lower tier seat costing £410.

The new three-year ticket in the same area costs £1,112, which works out at around £370 per season, a discount of about 5%.

The 12-month direct debit scheme introduced last season continues with those that utilised the facility during 2012/13 automatically renewed for 2013/14. Supporters aged under 11 years of age can again buy a season ticket for £10.

In the season ticket brochure, owner Marcus Evans writes that supporters will have a big part to play next season and paid tribute to manager Mick McCarthy's work since he came to the club in November: “Mick McCarthy’s performance since taking over as manager has been fantastic.

“Having taken over a team adrift at the bottom of the league, he has moulded a tough-to-beat and highly competitive team and if his results are multiplied over the course of the season, we are pretty close to play-off form.

“If next year is to be our year, we need everyone behind the team and for our fans to help make Portman Road a fortress.

“I am as committed as ever to getting the club promoted and Mick will be fully supported in his plans to develop the squad over the summer. We have the manager who can take us up and we need your support to get us there.

“In recognition of your support, the club will continue with its offer for season ticket holders in 2013/14 to be provided with half-price season tickets the following year, if we gain promotion to the Premiership.”

Existing season ticket holders will receive the usual season ticket packs by post in the next few days, while full details are on the club site here.

Ah, good to see Town adopting the "latest" web tech in Flash, just as it's rapidly in decline...

3 years season ticket. Payable in one lump! forget that then.

We should have been looking at a price cut considering some of the dross we have had to endure .There are still regularly 12000 empty seats each week which rarely get filled when the special offers are on.

Most worryingly the family enclosure looks very empty too these days , so where will the fans of the future come from?

CavendishBlue, I was discussing your latter point with Terry Baxter very recently.
ITFC have been somewhat dismissive of our future fanbase for several years now. Since the Evans Era began, funnily enough.

Cavendish: I agree - I'd heard talk of a price cut, so this was pretty disappointing. Being a ST holder who can't avoid missing a handful of games a season, I'm thinking twice about renewing this year. The 2nd ST we keep as a junior will be going. Shame they only offer cheap kids prices in certain areas. It's not like the other sections are full.

Have I read this correct - The 12-month direct debit scheme introduced last season continues with those that utilised the facility during 2012/13 AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED????

I may actually renew - I was going to not renew at our lowest point this year because I the quality of football and management more than the league position- but I feel next season will be exciting as mick will finally be able to say this is my team this is my year in charge- not steadying the sinking ship

Cannot see any gain in buying a 3 year ticket. Not only expensive outlay upfront, what happens if (a) the club goes into administration or (b) we get relegated?
This very much looks like the owner trying to get as much into the coffers as soon as possible to fund the likely summer transfers in. Perhaps the 2013/14 season is going to be a crucial one?

So. Older people with age concessions that may not have the online technology will not receive the price freeze. Very caring.

@CavendishBlue - If we were top of the Championship, those 12,000 seats would be full, so it's not simply an issue of price. Perhaps we should introduce an innovative performance-related ticket pricing scheme that is directly linked to our position in the league. The lower we get, the cheaper it is to endure. We could also tie in players' wages. Waddya reckon?

I think it's almost obvious a three year season ticket is a call for a cash boost; however I think it's not so much desperation but to pad the bank roll a little for summer spending- at least I hope it is; I do worry about Tommy Smith and Cresswell's future at town as I have a sick gut feeling the boys may be head hunted this summer

£390 seems in line with other League 1 clubs - I might as well renew.

Think it's daft. Should have cut the prices a bit this year and tried to get more people in the gate. As people have said we have endured absolute rubbish seasons for 5 years so with the optimism Mick has brought for next year (if we stay up) then this would have been a good time to get the fans back in.

Even if the prices were cut by 10%, very few additional tickets would get sold. The main driver for attendance is a winning team, and not just 1 win in 5.

He's hoping for this winning team next season.

Can't see the incentive for a 3 year ticket, unless Town were promoted next season and Premiership prices were introduced!

The 3 year season ticket is surely an attempt to retain all those poor souls who "invested" in a 10 year debenture whilst we were in the Prem. Those run out this season, don't they?

I've just taken a look at the season ticket prices for a few other clubs in the championship and in fairness we're in the same sort of price range as them. Ok we've had a bad season but so long as we stay up I'd say the prices are fair.

New season, a few new additions up front/in midfield and I see no reason why we can't be pushing for the playoffs

All very fair in my opinion but then I would renew if we were in the Blue Square Premier. Not many Clubs will have frozen their prices for 3 years whatever the circumstances and not much else in this world stays at the same price fror 3 years.

From a quick look at the brochure, it seems that for people paying by direct debit like most people do:

"YOUR SEASON TICKET HAS BEEN RENEWED AT THE FROZEN PRICES"

and

"You need to contact the club before 12th April if you want to opt out".

£10 for an under 11 season ticket, £110 for an over 11 season ticket - miles to big an increase . Get them in early and then lose them when they are older, so much for the supporters of the future- no wonder there are not many teenagers at games these days !!!

To be fair the automatic renew is what scum do (D/D method). You have to make the effort to cancel not renew which I believe is very clever. I believe many people who are 50/50 about renewing may renew because they forget or can't be bothered to cancel. One of the main reasons for poor attendances and low season ticket holders is simple. The stadium is too big for us. 15K empty seats every week means people will pick and choose games to attend. 2k empty seats means people will purchase a season ticket in case they can't get a seat on the games they wish to attend. I hate to say it scum have been very clever. They know they can't fill 30k every week so why have a 30k stadium. Despite what they tell you, their fan base is no bigger than ours. They purchase season tickets because they don't want to miss out on matches due to the lack of available seats.

Mark added 12:47 - Mar 21
I am not saying the automatic renewal is necessarily wrong, and it saves me having to do anything as I will be renewing, but I do think the club could have made this clearer a year ago as I don't like the presumption that companies can take money off me (I know some insurance firms try to do this and I don't like it; ITFC is rather different). We have to let the club know in 3 weeks if we don't want to renew, which is rather a short timescale especially if people are away on holiday etc. I wonder what will happen if people claim the money back through the Direct Debit guarantee!?

I can definately see the merits of the 3 year ticket if you have the cash. £1,112 for the lower North Stand makes it £16.11 per match. Even if we reach the Prem. That's very cheap by today's standards

RetroBlue added 16:03 - Mar 21
problem is you'd have to pay the whole £1,112 up front , and not in instalments ....like scum fans were able to do over a 5 yr rolling ST duration which was offered to them when they were relegated to League One.

Town as a Club really do piss me off at times like this. They dont really have the fans at the centre of their decision making.

At the end of the day, despite my moans and groans....it's season ticket all the way!

I think I have found a flaw in the 3 year ST thing, why would I buy a 3 year season ticket at £370 per year when if we get promoted next year I'm getting 50% off the next season? Are we really going to hike season tickets by £200 if we go up?
