McCarthy Will Make Changes at Burnley
Thursday, 2nd May 2013 15:18

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that he’ll make changes to his team for Saturday’s final game of the season at Burnley. The Blues secured their place in the Championship for the 2013/14 campaign by beating Birmingham 3-1 at Portman Road last weekend.

McCarthy says there are no new injuries with only the longer term absentees unavailable for the trip to Turf Moor.

“Everybody’s fine, there’s only Paul Taylor and Josh Carson out of the whole squad who aren’t fit,” he said, with Taylor still recovering from foot surgery and Carson from a broken toe sustained while on loan at York.

The Blues boss plans to tinker with his side against the Clarets, who are also safe, but wouldn't be drawn into giving any details: “There’ll be no change in formation in terms of 4-4-2, but there will be some differences in the team. I will make some changes.”

Those who have been on the fringes recently such as Michael Chopra, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Aaron Mclean, Andy Drury, Patrick Kisnorbo and Reece Brown will be hoping for some involvement, while Richard Stearman could come back in after missing out last week with a hamstring injury. Youngsters such as Jack Marriott could be included in the 18 for the first time and Tyrone Mings could be handed a debut.

With Town’s Championship status confirmed, he admits that training has lacked its usual intensity this week: “Without a doubt, it’s hard to keep banging those nails in.

“We want to win on Saturday but the reality is that from November 1st when I came in to last Saturday the whole goal was to stay in the league, so it’s really difficult not to say ‘Thank goodness for that’ and breathe a sigh of relief.

“But that said, training’s been good, it’s been bubbly, it’s been relaxed, had relief around it.

"They’ve trained well and we all know there’s one game to play and we want to be professional and make sure we do it correctly and go about the job right and not finish the season on a sour note.”

Most definately, I would not include a single player in the starting line up who is to be let go, be it loanees, or those players who are not to be offered new terms.

I think we all would like to see a couple of the lads given a go and in particular young Jack Marriott, who won the Academy player of the year. Involvement in the last game of the season wou;d be a just reward and boost for him (and indeed for all the other first year professionals) to take into next season.

Hopefully Cressy will play and complete every minute of the full season.. would be a shame for him to miss out on that personal achievement.

Mitch - are you crazy? Dropping Cresswell when he's 90 minutes short of being ever present for the whole season?

Should be the first name on the team sheet.

The guy in the club shop was preparing two away shirts for N'daw,Martin and Hewitt yesterday after a call from a coach....probably the longest journey one of those three will make this summer......

Thank Heavens for MM or Captain Fantastic as we called him in Ireland. Reckon he Will give Marriott a chance at some stage. He wont tinker too much as he hates to lose. Can see JET Wordsworth Etc getting a game. Loach, Hewitt, Chambers, Smith, Creswell, JET, Hyam, Wordsworth, Tabb. Nouble, Murphy. All should be at portman road next season.

I would love to see Mariott on the team sheet albeit starting or otherwise- I wouldn't like to see wholesale changes as that is what preseason is for- would be nice to see a win none the less as the higher we finish the more appealing we will look for transfer prospects

Let me start by saying I'm damn proud of the team. Against insurmountable odds, they fought their way book tooth and claw to be safe. The odds were certainly against them. I am really excited for next season. More excited than I have been for a long, long time. I feel bad for Wolves fans but to be honest, it's refreshing to hear them bemoaning losing MM and TC. I think we are finally in good hands.

So, my team for Saturday would be.

Loach
Hewitt, Chambers, Smith, Cresswell
Edwards, Hyam, N'Daw, Wordsworth
JET, Nouble

Subs Lee-barrett Marriott Mings Murphy

I'm really hoping Chopra is gone this summer. The club has been more than patient with him and he is just toxic. His only job is to score and he can't do it. He can however, gamble and party. He's no good to the team. It's a shame as I was so excited when he signed.

Really glad to see Loach stepping up and getting back in the mix.

I would have to say Mick is cool as a cuecumber and i have to say after a stressful season we can surely enjoy to relax and enjoy the last game of the season. I think we should play a team thas has deserved tobe in the team. My selections below.

Loach
Stearman Chambers Smith Cresswell
Edwards Hyam Tabb Jet
Nouble Murphy

Barret Hewitt Mings Marriot Ndaw Kisnorbo Mclean

Truthfully i think Martin, Drury and Chopra wont be wearing the ow shirt again. Martin is nconsistent, Drury is not the quality we need and Chopra should be doing paddy power adverts.

Lets see what the summer brings when lots of new face will arrive at Portman Road.

Got to go for a win as each place in the league = £k prize money (not sure how much) but can make a big difference.

tearle1974 have u not learned from previous summers of new arrivals.
we need stability at the club and to develop the players we have while intergrating the odd academy player into the mix. we are not far from competing at the right end of the table and have been in play off form since mick took over.
for me it would be if fit

loach
stearman chambers smith cresswell
edwards hyam tabb martin
nouble chopra

if chops is not doing his job put marriot on at half time.
chops is still and always will be a natural goalscorer and deserves another chance.
i rekon if martin or chops go they will go to a team who finished above us and go on to do well just like delaney or leadbitter or even dan harding.

lets get behind ALL are players now as i think this squad could have a great year if kept together

Huge cheer for MM, TC & the team this Saturday and an extra shout out in the third minute to Cressy for what we all hope will be a match that he sees through to the end for his incredible achievement of playing every minute of every game this season.

Hope we can give a couple of the young uns a place on the bench with a bit of game time for them towards the end when we will be at least 2 up!

Stato added 21:50 - May 2
start chopra to put him in the shop window and try and persuade someone like sheff utd to buy him. leave n'daw at home on skype looking for new club. get martin to sign a new contract on half his current deal before saturday or leave him at home. give mings a start and marriott half hour at the end. try hewitt at right midfield as maybe stearman might have right back slot next season.

Give Chops a game so he can reach his season's target of 25-30 goals.
